Why use a grip?

When I was using my first dSLR (20D) 5 years ago, I bought one for it.
I don't deny the advantages of a vertical grip, however, for the specific style of photography I like to do the most (street photography and portraits of strangers), I prefer my camera to be as small and lightweight as possible, without calling too much attention.

For other styles, a grip may me usefull.

Here you go mate

I'm the same as most people on here - Primarily as i've big hands, I also use it with 2 batteries fitted, which gives longer operational life, also, it balances better with heavier lenses (not necessarily longer lenses - the sigma 10-20 also feels better on the gripped body.) It's also nice however, to be able to go without if you're using the kit lens and save some weight (important if you're out yomping up mountains )
