Wide angle lens advice needed - Canon 17-40 VS Tamron 17-50 vs Sigma 17-35 & 17-50?

Hi all,

So i'm incredibly confused as to what the real differences or advantages are for any of these lenses.
I've read so many websites and reviews but I feel as if I know less than I did when I started looking into these models!

Currently I have a Canon 70D, a Canon 18-55m stock lens and a Canon 50mm 1.8 fixed.

These are the models I've selected:

I've been using the fixed lens solely for about 8 months now so am looking to get a good wide lens to override my 18-55 and to compliment the 50mm fixed.
Any ideas would be very much appreciated as I am just so lost right now :)

The 17-40 and 17-35 are full frame lenses which means that unless you are planning to upgrade to a full frame body you will be lugging around extra weight for no real reason. The Canon is very good, the Sigma less so.

The Sigma 17-50 isn't constant aperture (although you can get one that is) so I wouldn't bother changing.

The Tamron is constant aperture which is what you want and is a good lens. In your situation it's the one I'd get if I wanted to replace the kit lens, or actually I'd probably get the VC version.
 
The two best lenses for your camera in that category are Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS and Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS, both around £500. 15-85 has great range, while the 17-55 trades some of that for a constant 2.8 aperture, both head and shoulders above anything else.
