Wide angle lens for NYC - advice please. (Full frame)

Morning all.

I'm in the lucky position of going to New York in the next couple of weeks.

I've just purchased a new Canon 5D Mkii (which should get delivered tomorrow) and I'm after some advice as to what wide angle lens to hire...

I used to have a 50D so the choice was simple - 10-22, but with the 5D, should I go with something like the 17-40, (but will F4 be quick enough), or should I hire something like the 14mm...?

I think the 17-40 f4 would be fine for outdoor. I wouldn't want to be restricted to a fixed focal length.
 
Similar boat, but my trip is Arizona/California.

I have a Sigma 12-24 and have just bought a 17-40L. I've only been out once with the 17-40L but it is sharper, has better colours and pop and is more consistent than the 12-24 at 17+mm. You need to stop it to f5.6 to get it sharp to (nearly) the corners on full frame, but on a bright day, this doesn't really matter (I was shooting at ISO 100 & 1/250th on Saturday at F5.6).

The downside of the 17-40L is that it doesn't go to 12mm (err - obviously), which is crazy wide and gives some great aspects on buildings. I love the look the lens gives at 12mm so will keep it too.
 
The 17-40 and 5D are a great combination!
 
Thanks for the advice!

I could be tempted by the 16-35 just for the extra stop when indoors, otherwise the 17-40 sounds good.

I'll do some more research tonight.
