Wide Angle Lens for Sony Alpha?

Hi All

I have a Sony a200 and Sony a700 and I am looking for the best wide angle lens to use with them both. Doe anyone have any views on the best one that I should consider, eg Sony SAL-20F28 or Sigma 10-20mm??

If you're after an ultra wide angle, then the Sigma 10-20mm does get lots of good reviews. I went for a Tamron (now rebranded as Sony) 11-18mm and am very very happy with it :thumbs:. Not the sharpest lens you've ever used, but it gives lovely deep colours and feels really good to use.

If you just want normal wide angle with excellent image quality - then IMO the Sony 20mm f/2.8 deserves the excellent reviews it gets. I actually have one for sale on the Dyxum forums if you're interested.
 
Consider a Sigma 12-24mm EX. Loses 2mm on the wide side to it's crop only sibling, but nicely corrected from around 14mm onwards.
 
I would say either Tamron/Sony/Konica Minolta 11-18mm or Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6

But which one is the sharpest, I cannot say as I dont own all of them
But would like to know either Sony or Sigma is sharper?

The Sigma 10-20 (non-HSM) produces pleasing results. I haven't owned any of the others.

From the reviews I've seen, the Sigma 10-20mm is probably slightly sharper than the Tamron/Sony 11-18mm.

But the 11-18mm has other qualities. It gives really nice rich colours and doesn't suffer too much from glare, etc. That's why I went for the Tamron. This was the result of my first day out with it: http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=178901

Overall the Sigma 10-20 & Tamron/Sony 11-18mm are pretty equal but with different pros/cons.
