Wind noise reduction - camera or windshield or something else

I use a Canon R5 with aa Rode Videomic Pro+ when videoing things. To minimise wind noise in my videos, I have used the incamera setting, and also place the Rode Deadcat Windshield over the mic.

Still a degree of noise is encroaching into my videos and I am wondering what other people do.

If your videoing talking then radio mics are usually better, other than that it's a dead cat and shield the camera if possible. I have seen people put up a second tripod with a brolly on to shield a camera from the worst, never tried it though so dont know if it works. Personally I'd be afraid of the wind taking the brolly and camera with it.

Its things like bird sounds and steam locos that I tend to record outside, occasionally an outdoor music event

Are you using the Rode DeadCat VMP.

That should give you reasonable level of isolation, your next step up is a blimp. I use the Rode Blimp with dead cat if it's windy, but if the wind speed is above about 15 mph I will still get some low frequency noise.

Have you tried using a longer cable or wireless link to get the mic off the camera in to some less turbulent air.
