I'm not overly PC literate these days....but Our OPC at home is fast running out of disk space. I have several Gb of windows updates on the drive and SP3 is flashing at me to be installed. As I understand it a Service pack is a collection of previous updates as a single bundle.

If I install SP3, Can I bin the the previous Windows updates?
 
Think you will fnd sp3 is just a collection of the updates you already have.
 
I have no proof but im sure a service pack will be both old files plus a bunch of new updates, apparently the sp3 on xp makes it run faster and more efficient than vista now
 
There are one or two fixes in there that have not come out as hotfixes or patches before. The sp wont install the fixes if they are already installed, unless they have been updated since installation.
 
I've had SP3 render a couple of pc's useless without a rebuild. But then it's also installed ok on another. Suggest you backup your files before you apply it.
 
If you download SP3, you can bin all the updates up to SP3's release date. It's easiest doing it on Windows Update, as it only downloads the bits it requires, not the stuff you already have.

After mucking about with Vista 64bit Ultimate SP1 for the last few days, I would have to say even bleeding Win98 can do that!

I have Vist 32 Home premium on a desktop and a laptop both with service pack 1 and they both outperform my sons Dell XP sp3 what I have found out though is that Vista will slow down when it decides to index so you cn switch this function off and get the speed back
