Only just recently brought myself a new HP Laptop running Windows 7. We do not have any wireless network/internet in our house, I just use a Netgear router with 4 output cables, these are connected to our two desktop PC's and old Laptop for the iPlayer all running Windows XP. But the only way I can get Windows 7 to access this router is to disconnect the RC45 cable and then plug it back in and we are connected. If I fire up the laptop without disconnecting this cable it will not find the router. I have disabled wireless on laptop, any other suggestions as to which box to tick to allow Windows 7 to find router as it fires up.

Right click local area network
click properties
Click internet protocol version 4
Tick Obtain address automaticaly.
okay everything
reboot your machine, cable in.
It should be okay then.

All of those settings were already set. What I forgot to add to my original post is that the little box on r/h side of taskbar will say that the laptop is connected to Network, but IE or Chrome will not connect unless I pull the RC45 plug out and then plug it back in.
