I would like to be able to fire my 430ex II wirelessly from a Canon 450d. I have found loads of options on ebay at cheap prices, and then the very expensive options. Is there any middle ground options that aren't cheap imports but are the Pocket Wizards. What do you I need to be aware of when making the decision?
 
I received my Yongnou RF-603's in the post this morning. Haven't had a chance to test them yet, but am sure they will work fine. I am very impressed with the build quality considering the fairly low cost.
 
I got some RF-602 from the uk for £25.99 and have been very impressed with them.
 
Ummmm... I spoke too soon. After spending ages messing around trying to figure out why my flash was not firing, as a last resort I swapped the RF-603 'transceivers' around and guess what, the flash fired first time. Swapped them back again and nothing. So from being impressed this morning, I have gone to being not so impressed this evening!

I received my Yongnuo RF-602s a couple of days ago. They work very well and are a good price.
 
As already mentioned, RF-602s are a very cheap way into multiple wireless flash and to be fair, despite their budget price, they do a fine job going by everything that has been written about them. I use Phottix Stratos, which are better built than the '602 and have a TTL pass-though on the transmitter so you can use a TTL flash on-camera. They work out about £30 a piece and so far they've survived being dropped, getting drenched and cold nights in the car without a hitch.
 
An update, 3 out of 4 of the RF-603's are working fine. One only seems to be working fully as a transmitter.

The advantages for me over the RF-602's are that the RF-603's also allow TTL pass-though on the camera hotshoe so you can use a TTL flash on-camera. They are transceivers. If you have a transmitter/receiver based system, then if you lose or break the transmitter you have a problem unless you have a spare and also the RF-603's take standard AAA batteries. I paid £50 delivered for 4 including 2 x shutter release cables. (one cable is included in each box of 2). If it wasn't for the one faulty unit, I would be very happy. Just unlucky I guess and hopefully it will get sorted out anyway.
 
In case anyone was interested, the Ebay seller Apexcam has been quick to respond to my problem. I posted the faulty transceiver back to China this morning. Apexcam has already refunded my return postage costs and despatched a replacement transceiver to me.

Received the replacement transceiver today and it works perfectly. Well done to Apexcam for sorting out the problem quickly and efficiently. :)
