im i going mad :bang:

The exif says f5.6 but that doesnt mean it hasnt got f4, it has to be set at f4.... or am I missing your point?

looks like you had it on one of the auto exposure modes. The max aperture of that lens is indeed F4 according to the exif, so Perhaps look at your camera settings again

My guess is it's a f/4 to f5/6 depending on the focal length. EXIF says pic was taken at f/5.6 with a focal length of 60mm but that MAX aperture is f/4.

Did you shoot in Aperture priority mode and set it (will it allow you to set it) to F4 ??

Also, what does it say on the lens, they normally state the F range

Also possible.... debrito, what exactly does it say on the lens, the entire name including all the letters and numbers?

ok thanks for all your replys
her goes

af lens 35-70
af zoom 35-70mm 1:4(22) 49mm minolta
thats all it has on lens
21203604 japan

Probally wont be F4 throughout the range and will be F4 at 30mm however will increase with focal length

Sounds like its the "mini" beercan lens.... which should be F4 wide open at all focal lengths!;) Best guess would be that its been shot in S mode, and the cameras worked out F5.6? try using A mode, and set it to F4, or full manual and set F4, see how that goes:thumbs:

sorrry i think i just had a wire loose in my head of course its going to be f4 upso 5.6 is going to say that all day if it said 3.5 then thats the time to worry
sorry about that guys and dolls :cuckoo:i have gone :cuckoo::lol:

I think the give away info was in your lens description

1:4(22)

That just means the lens aperture range is = f/4.0 - f/22 with the f/4.0 bit being constant throughout the lens zoom range.
