Sorry to start a thread away from the main owners thread, but what settings are people using for JPEGs? I usually shoot RAW but everyone raves about Fuji's JPEGs so what do you have all the options set to? I tried shooting JPEG once with it but just had it set to the standard settings and I wasn't that impressed with it if I'm honnest so maybe that had something to do with it?

Pretty sure mine are set all to 0.
 
Same here - I mainly use exr mode
 
Raw plus jpg should save both to card. Exr doesn't produce raw though so you only get jpg. In camera nr is a bit crap so I turn down as low as possible. I don't like the extreme dr400 settings either.

What I have noticed is that the in camera raw to jpg conversion is really good though.

LR4 struggled with the raw files but 5 seems way better.
What I tend to do is shoot both raw and jpg and use the jpg as an example of what's possible - usually the tone is great but you lose shadow detail - and use that as a yardstick to tweak the raw. Horrible workflow as I have to preview the jpgs in explorer, separate the raws and import into LR - but it works for me for small volumes.

The in camera flash balance in EXR is crazily good, I've found
 
Film Simulation Standard/ Provia WB SHIFT Red+3 and Yellow-1 Gives the photos a bit of warmth I feel.

Tweaking the colours in WB Shift by something like RED+3 or maybe a touch more, and Yellow-2 or so can I think give a nice colour hint. In nice light it can replicate the golden hour colours. I have gotten some nice portraits with good skin tone, by tweaking the colours in WB Shift.
 
Hi David, My wife has an X-F1 Camera and after some experimenting with various settings I have set it up for her in this way that seems to give very good results.

RAW + JPEG,
ISO Auto 400 or Auto 800,
Auto WB,
Provia Std,
Sharpness Med Hard, (Helps to crispen up fine detail a bit without overdoing it)
Noise Reduction Med Low, (I found this setting to be better for helping to prevent fine detai from blocking up, ie grass, hair, etc).

Still no luck with trying to find both RAF and JPG files when set to do both. :(

I've switched RAW off and it saves a JPG but then when set back to RAW + JPEG it just shows the RAF file on the computer. I'm stumped. Anyone elses do this?
 
I'll have a look later - have just taken a snapshot so will turn the PC on after I've eaten and report back
 
Oh hang on, when you say jpg not appearing, do you mean in lightroom? Lightroom is "smart" enough to only import the raw file if your camera shoots both raw and jpg. So I manually separate them in explorer when I want to work on the jpgs. If you import them as two separate actions lightroom will show both...

Not sure if there's a setting in lightroom to do both file types in one go.

Hi David, Yes I do use lightroom but I haven't tried to put the JPEG files into it as yet, but below is a quote made from another TP member on one of these forums a while back and is saying how to open JPEG files in Photoshop Camera RAW. I wonder if the same would work in Lightroom. As I said I have not tried it as yet.

I don’t know if it will be of any help, or maybe I’m being presumptuous, but did you know that you can open JPEGs in Adobe camera raw and treat them as if they where RAWs. That is to say, you can manipulate white balance, blacks, shadows, noise, pretty much everything.
To do this go to edit preferences and set “JPEG and TIFF handling” to "Automatically open all supported JPEGs",
Do the same for TIFFs if you use TIFFs.
In older versions of PS, it under "File handling".
 
Hi George. Thanks for the help, again! I managed to sort it. Apparently if you shoot RAW and JPEG at the same time on the same card then Lr will ignore the JPEG files unless you tell it to show both in the import panel. All sorted now mate, but thanks anyway. :)
