Xmas Moon

Hi Andy,
does the moon actually twist anti-clockwise in your last image?
Look at the position of the two light coloured craters at 6 o'clock position.

I'm not sure I can answer your question fully but I think some of the twist could be me holding the camera a bit squiffy but I believe it is mainly seen when the moon is photographed at different times of the day.
ie: take one at 1800hrs and another at 2200hrs and I think the twist is different.
Sorry I cant offer a more educated explanation.

excellent images by the way, but you know that the sky is never really black (at least as viewed from earth).

yes but why is the daytime sky blue, where does it get its colour from?
