Hi guys,

Well, just got an assignment this AM to make a 6X8 Foot poster for a friend/client (they're kinda both, so I didn't mind taking it on such short notice). So , we took the shots and they're ready to process. My camera is an 8 Megapixel Canon S5. i took the shots on highest settings of course. My question is what DPI should I make the poster do you reckon so that it looks reasonably good from around ten to fifteen feet away. fortunately, the final image will have some glow effects to it, so ultimate sharpness or detail isn't too big a factor.

Any DPI suggestions please?

DPI is dictated by the print process. Ask whoever is generating the print at 6x8 how many dpi they require and size the image accordingly.

Bear in mind that 8ft is 96", so your ~3200 pixels will have to be scaled to fit in 96", so you will be getting ~32 pixels per inch of resolution from your camera. Most print processes are 240-300dpi, so you're going to have a lot of scaling to get it to the right size (and probably introduce blocking artefacts).
