Steve - 40D, MP-E65, MT-24EX with DIY diffuser, 1/200, F11, ISO100, handheld. You can see what the setup is like in my siggy.

Flickr applies an unsharp mask to the resized images, which is probably why they look that way.

Lucien, higher mag shots tend to be softer due to diffraction as effective f number = set f number * (m+1). A bit of extra sharpening applied during PP.

Thanks Gary, Rhod and Jenny. Really friendly paper wasps. I was actually holding the leaf the nest was on for the high mag shots.
