As I will be spending part of my summer leave in the UK I am looking to find some wildlife in or around the dales. Would love to get snipes, grouse, little owls, rabbit... well anything to be honest... foxes would be nice too. :)

Any locals recommend anything, I was local until I moved to Germany, please. I do not mind paying hide fees if I must.

I'm no nature photographer, but there are more grouse than I care to count on the hills in Swaledale. Red squirrels can be seen around Snaizeholm a short drive or walk from Hawes. we get plenty of rabbits in Richmond, and hares can occasionally be seen, though they are pretty prolific in Swaledale as well. No info on snipe, but I regularly see oystercatchers in the dales when I am cycling.
Hope this is of some help

Malham Cove for the peregrines and LITTLE OWLS ! I don't know when the owls are present, maybe they're present all year round, I don't know.

I've seen grouse on North Moor Road off the A59 near Fewston Reservoir, North Yorkshire. There's also a possibility of seeing the red kite. There are deer at Fewston/Swinsty Reservoir, but I've only seen them once in my time walking there.

I've seen snipe while fishing on the River Aire near Skipton and very close to where I live, BUT these are sightings are not frequent.

St. Ives, Harden (West Yorkshire).... A few foxes and deer here, but due to the amount of people who go here, you HAVE to get there extremely early to catch a glimpse of the shy creatures. I'm sure there are better places than here though.

Little Owls are highly sedentary, once they've established a territory, they generally don't go far for the rest of their lives. However, I'd expect them to harder to find in the winter; they're not so tied to nesting hole, and the weather is less likely to encourage them to be sunning themselves in prominent spots.

Nice thanks. Swaledale is on my list of must re-visits :) Especially up Muker and Keld way. Any specific hills? ;)

On the main road from Richmond to Muker just short of Reeth is a pub called the Bridge Inn. Its on the corner of a sharp bend, on this bend there is a left turn take it and go up the hill for no more than a mile and you will be able to photograph Red Grouse all day long.
