it seems incredible value for money unless all the components are crap.Could you build this for similar money using better parts do you think. I'm going to treat my son to a new pc and don't know whether to build it or get one of these, budget about 400 quid max. From the revues I can see the psu is noisy but for the money...

I think the processor can be had at about £140 and the MB is probably budget taking into account the max ram etc. PSU may be a little weak if your son is going to add graphics cards etc.

Personally, I'd build one.

  • MSI Z77A-G45, Intel Z77, S 1155, DDR3, SATA III - 6Gb/s, SATA RAID, PCIe 3.0 (x16), D-Sub/ DVI-D/ HDMI, ATX £75.32
  • Intel Core i5 3330, S 1155, Ivy Bridge, Quad Core, 3GHz, 5 GT/s DMI, 30x Ratio, 77W, Retail £140.88
  • Asus TA-8H1 Black/ Silver Midi Tower Case w/o psu £16.04
  • 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 XMS3, PC3-10600 (1333), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, 1.50V £27.79
  • 120GB Sandisk Extreme, 2.5" SSD, SATA III - 6Gb/s, Read 550MB/s, Write 510MB/s, 83000 IOPS Max. £78.14
  • 550W OCZ Technology ZS Series OCZ-ZS550W-UK, 86% Eff', 80 PLUS Bronze, SLI/CrossFire, EPS 12V, Quiet Fan, ATX v2.2, PSU £47.46

Comes in at £396.61 from scan.co.uk including the vodka and tonic. Even though the hard drive is only 120GB it should be fine for OS and some games and will make a huge difference over traditional drives. Extra £40 would double it to 240GB. Easy enough to add slower large volume storage drives if necessary. No graphics card though....

Depends on what your son will use it for?

Wow Graham!, thanks for that mate, you are a star:) to be honest I would rather build it seeing that spec you've done for me and reading a bit more about zoostorm pc's. I'll have a look at that scan site and check that out(y)

No OS from Grahams build ;) If you're worried about the PSU, just buy a decent one and replace the one in the PC. That way, it's quiet and you have a spare in the cupboard - all for just over £30 over £400. It's not very expandable but it will do what it says on the tin.

Zoostorm are a reasonable budget PC as far as I can tell...
