Anyone else use 500px?

Nice set.

By the way, I think one of them has a misspelling in the title. I think it was meant to be En la sombra del toro.

Correcto y muchas gracias! Debo prestar mas atencion! I really should pay more attention.

only put a small selection of my work on there so far......

Only a small selection, Mark, but yours is the kind of work that got 500px so popular in the first place. Excellent.

By the way, I don't know if you realise that you can choose which part of the picture is used as a thumbnail. A couple of your titles didn't make sense until I clicked through to see the photo because the 'important' bits were not shown in the thumbnail.

If you click 'Edit' on the photo page you can then drag a bounding box around the portion of the picture that you want shown in the thumbnail. You can then use the handles to resize or move the box. Click Save and refresh the main page to see the results.

Thank you Garry. I wasn't aware you could do that.

I deleted myself over the weekend as I found I wasn't using it - and of the photos that I did post up, I ended up with the normal Great Shot type comments, rather than anything useful.

I sort of came to the conclusion that the majority of people using it were there to have their internet egos used...

Same here been meaning to delete myself for a while, daft as it may seem I get better feedback off Flickr

They have a half price sale on at the moment at $25. I am going to use it just so i have a pre-canned portfolio site - I just couldn't get on with web hosting. I don't have the time to build/maintain a site. I figure 500px will just make that easy for me. I will keep my Flickr account for groups/comments/etc.

The $25 price isn't just for new accounts. If you already have an "Awesome" account you can add a year to it for $25. At 18:32 today, 500px tweeted thus:

"If you already have @500px Awesome account you can still add 12 months for just $25. Use code blackfriday2011 at 500px.com/upgrade"

May I ask for anyone interested in band/musician photography to pop over to:

http://500px.com/stevenchristie

I'd really appreciate your constructive opinions as both the bands and I are happy with them - but we are hardly unbiased!

Thanks,

Steven.

Sorry for reviving a month old thread.. I didnt see any other recent to post in.

I've recently converted to 500px from Flickr too.

Throw us a follow and I will follow back. Its mostly street photography but I try and have a dabble at other styles too.

For anyone wanting to upgrade then if you use the promo code "boxingpixels then the price falls to $24.95.

Just upgraded my account - will wait until I have some better photos before I share my account :)

Thanks, been waiting for this after missing the previous deal. I'm in a similar position of waiting until I get better photos before sharing...

michael.. added you back thanks

I managed it with this one but I had to go to Tools, View Source (in Chrome, probably different in other browsers) to grab the URL. If you look for something like this:

< div id="photo" >
<a href="http://s3.amazonaws.com/photos.500px.net/4157312/8b49012f49d80cebc4e4d0a438b7b0a6676f4e90/5.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJD7S52E7WX7K465A&amp;Expires=1325851550&amp;Signature=nt%2FNh%2BZMM8Oc6Tjtct33366sAJw%3D"><img alt="Photograph The Queen's Walk by Garry Knight on 500px" id="mainphoto" rel="Shadowbox" src="http://s3.amazonaws.com/photos.500px.net/4157312/8b49012f49d80cebc4e4d0a438b7b0a6676f4e90/4.jpg?t=1325807971" /></a>
< /div >

The bit you need is the bit after the "<a href" that starts with "http://" and ends with ".jpg", omitting everything from the "?" onwards.

500px try to discourage photo theft by disabling right-clicks, but as you can see it's fairly trivial to get around it.

I discovered this last week myself, makes a big difference

thanks for the people who have added me i have also added ya back :) you guys have some great photos!

I've started to add a few more old photos to my 500 account, presentation wise it's streets ahead of flickr, but I miss the groups of flickr and the community that's behind some of them.

Anyone using the Lightroom plugin having issues tonight? I can publish to Facebook, Zenfolio and Flickr all fine but the 500px publisher is failing and telling me to check I have an internet connection.

Edit: Working again now.

I use 500px, but I've noticed that there mainly seems to be poorly shot naked girls and not much else. There's an obscene amount of tacky nudity on there. Not the good kind of nudity, but the kind of stuff that makes you feel sorry for the girl.

Are you on the same 500px as me?

I've seen 000 's of landscapes, animals, people, and other works that have blown my mind. Some of the nude works are simply stunning.

If you think it's all tacky nudes, try looking in the model mayhem POTD 18+ competition :(
