Beginner What's wrong with the Nikon 18-105 AF-S DX VR IF ED?

Optically no real issues and a very useful focal length, bust the plastic lens mount on mine, stupid stupid idea that Nikon still chuff about with presumably to save ten bob

Lens Advice - Nikon or Sony?

I’d be surprised if you could see much difference in daylight. I’ve never shot with a Sony but I use a D7100 alongside my D800, I’m happy with either on my travels and have 24”x16” enlargements off them both. 90% of the image is being there, all the gear your considering is excellent

    input on lenses please

I've seem the nikon 16-35 F4 VR sell for £600 in the classifieds, fantastic lens and takes standard 77mm filters

Can't fault the Nikon 105mm F2.8 VR, beautiful portrait lens as well

Best bargains in Nikon AF lenses?

Nikon 35-70 F2.8D and the 70-210 F4-5.6D are both excellent lenses and very affordable

100mm glass filter system, is it worth it?

Agreed although I have a couple of step up rings for my smaller primes, in reality it's generally my 16-35 that I use the filters on most. Not convinced that any of the other systems are optically better than the pro Hoya glass

100mm glass filter system, is it worth it?

I tend to use a 10 stop for long exposure and a CPL, cant see the point in grads these days. I'm at a loss as to why folks spend as much as they do on various systems. I use a hoya 77mm PRO ND1000 ten stop and a hoya pro digital circular polariser and they are both excellent. Both together cost...

    Nikon D7100

Got a 7100, brilliant little camera as I'm sure is the 7200. Prefer it in many ways to my D800, especially the weight saving.

Cheap but Good Midrange FX zoom

If you can live with 28mm at the widest, the 28-105 AFD is a gem and very affordable

Beginner Nikon users - What is everyone's favourite lens and what do you use it most for?

If your shooting dx then the 35mm F1.8 dx is a superb portrait prime, sharp as a tack

    Lensmaster gimbal head

I've used a lensmaster RH2 for the past 4 years, nikon 500mm F4 and various bodies, great bit of kit that just works, unless you've more money than sense why pay more?

Downgrading from fx to dx ?

I use FX, DX and CX and like them all for different reasons, DX is in my opinion the best option if you could only choose one system, my D7100 is a fabulous camera and the only shortcoming is its tiny buffer, I'd like a d500 but don't do enough wildlife work to justify the further expense.

    Nikon V1

I would echo pretty much whats been said above, never got around to upgrading to a V2 but would like one. the V1 handles much better with long lenses if you get a cheap chinese grip!

    Recommend a lens

I use occasionally my 24-70 on the D7100, optically it is as you would expect superb but it's very heavy, unbalanced and is for all intents a very expensive 35 -105. If your sticking with DX then the 17-55 F2.8 is an excellent lens but is still a heavy old lump. Personally if it's to do a bit...

    Nikon 500mm with 1.4x converter

Ive got the 500mm f4 AFS VR, I've never noticed vignetting like that with any of the 3 nikon teleconvertors? Are you using the standard nikon lens hood?
