    Problems with developing

Handle it now (of course you know that!). In the summer with a gentle air flow, I can cut mine and package within 3/4 hours (if I have to) but I usually leave them for 6 hours (as they are doing no harm). Just keep the sun off them and keep out of humidity. Look forward to seeing the...

Contrasty B&W. Black blacks, bright whites

Contrast is the difference between black and white - yes? Yes! push and pull are processess for times when there is no alternative. Yes you can experiment for fun and learn but, if you value your photography and pictures as a once only chance to capture that moment, why risk your work? I...

    Kentmere 400 b&w film

Edward,I have thought whether to reply to your post or not and after careful consideration, I believe there is value in doing so. 1. The OP stated this: "...I like contrast by the bucketful though so reticent to move away from Tri-X but saving some cash would be nice" 2. There was talk of...

    Kentmere 400 b&w film

This image was taken indoors with the blinds down and letting some back light in, into an office. It was taken using a low contrast 1952 leica lens and the contrast in the Rollei film is still evident. There are no 'whites' there are no definitive 'colours' per se but there are plenty of...

    Kentmere 400 b&w film

I would still buy some. I took this as a test shot this week using Rollei 100 @ 80 and didn't pay too much attention to the developing regime (I just wanted to see that there were no scratches.

Back to 35mm. Trying a combination of Rollei Retro 100 @ 80 in Rodinal 1:25 for 7 mins. (As I was testing a piece of kit, I was not that precise regarding the developing stage - I just needed to make certain there were no scratches on the film etc) Much better tonality than the 120 post I...

    Shutter/Mirror Problem with Spotmatic F?

Samuel, as Joxby has said, it appears to be the fast speeds that are sticking. I suggest you work them i.e. keep firing those speeds (500 & 100) for ten minutes or so and then put a cheap, cheap B&W (home dev' for preference or C41 if you have cheap Asda lab nearby) film through the camera...

Pertinent to recent comments on quality

Brian, the sun is to the right side/quarter on both shots did you use a hood? Just check the lens using the torch routine and make certain there is no haze it it... If all the above is fine then I would have to say it's more than likely a development issue.

Some very nice pictures being posted here. This is one from a Minolta Autocord using TriX 400 on a very dull, overcast day in February this year. It was my first roll through the Autocord and though the camera was on a tripod and I still was struggling with the setup (fast coming to believe...

Tuco, can you just talk me through your metering 'method' when using the spot meter - use post number #4393 above as a starting point. By the way, I will let you know when you put up a duff picture (it's easier that way :D) Regards Alistair
