    iMac 5K spec for Lightroom

Holy thread resurrection! I posted this in April and bought one shortly afterwards. Went for the i7 with the standard graphics card, SSD and upgraded to 24Gb of RAM. No idea what you determine to be "terrible" Lightroom performance, but it's working like a charm for me and I couldn't be happier...

    iMac 5K spec for Lightroom

One question: You say the fusion drive is a dog - can you elaborate? I'm pretty much sold on the SSD anyway having upgraded to an SSD as my main drive in my old PC (which made an enormous difference) but I've got to admit, the extra on-board storage would be handy - not for photo stuff...

    iMac 5K spec for Lightroom

Thanks man, that would be helpful. I actually bought a used early 2013 MacBook Pro Retina i5 with 8Gb RAM and the 256Gb SSD. Snagged an eBay bargain! I'm pretty blown away by how well it handles Lightroom, and the screen is just stunning. But I'm used to working on a 24" monitor, so I've decided...

    iMac 5K spec for Lightroom

Thanks for all the helpful replies people. Looking like the i7 is a definite, and I'm leaning towards blowing a bit more on the graphics card. As far as I can tell it doesn't make a huge difference currently, but as someone else mentioned, Adobe are working towards utilising the graphics card...

    iMac 5K spec for Lightroom

Hi people, I'll be buying a 27" iMac 5K in the next couple of weeks, but I'm struggling to find any concrete information about what upgrades really make a difference, specifically for use as a Lightroom workhorse (with a bit of light Photoshop use from time to time). I'll definitely opt for...

Best way to ship camera/lens with insurance?

Hi guys, I need to send my camera and a lens to Sigma for calibration but I'm struggling to find a reasonably priced way of sending it to them with enough insurance to cover the value (£2700). Most couriers seem to go up to £2500 maximum, and are hideously expensive! Wondering if anyone has...

7D and SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab S 10.5" Tablet

Oops, forgot to quote in the last message. Hoping this gets to someone who might be able to answer my question!

7D and SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab S 10.5" Tablet

Apologies for resurrecting this thread, but you don't happen to know what OTG cable you used do you? I have a Tab S 10.5 but it's not recognising my 5D iii when connected, I just get a message saying something like "couldn't find a compatible camera". According to the devs my camera is...

Sturdy point & shoot for a 5 year old?

Thanks guys, that ebay search is handy! I'll see what I can find. :)

Sturdy point & shoot for a 5 year old?

Hi peeps, Looking for some recommendations for a fairly cheap, used point & shoot camera for my son. He's had one of those VTech Kiddizoom things for a couple of years and he absolutely loves it, he takes it everywhere with him and is a fearless street photographer! I'm thinking of getting him...

Canon 5D MK I 'classic' - owners thread

It all depends on your budget and what your walkabouts involve! For a bargain short zoom the Tamron 28-75 is the one. Very good for the price, and to be honest I'm in no hurry to upgrade to one of the far more expensive alternatives. Get a good used one and see how you get on with it. If you...

    Full Frame prime lens

Just to throw another opinion in there... I own the Sigma 50mm 1.4 and the Canon 85mm 1.8 primes, and I love them both. I've also just ordered the Sigma 35mm 1.4. I use a 5D. Out of the two I currently own, the 50mm has gotten far more use - mainly photos of my kids and friends, but also at...

    Sigma 50mm Focusing Issues

I would post a 100% crop from a shot taken at f/1.4 after I got it back from calibration, but I don't know how to. I won't post a 100% crop from a photo taken BEFORE I sent it off to be calibrated, as it would make you vomit. It was that bad.

    Sigma 50mm Focusing Issues

Speaking as someone who owns the same lens and had major problems, I feel your pain. However, don't worry - the chances are you will end up with an amazing lens, you just need to send it off to Sigma with your camera body to have them calibrated. A bit of a pain in the wotnot, but it's worth it...
