How is it the entire company when it been split up which part do the bank own?
I guess this is why Sigma will not supply them
No idea why they are not stocking Sigma though.
Because Sigma had this crazy idea that they should be paid for goods they supplied, rather than, as it looked at the time, joining a huge list of creditors to eventually get 2p back on the pound should Jessops go bust....
HSBC have baught 46.3% shares in them to secure there future.
I've just bought a D700 from Jessops. List price £1799 but got it for £1699.
Can I ask how you got the extra £100 off?
The last people to ask if a company is going under is the staff, they will be the last to know.
HSBC have not bought the shares they have done an equity swop and wrote of some debt.
My guess is that Jessops will contine to trade to pay off the ourstanding debt to the bank , when the banks exposure to the debt is politically acceptable they will asset strip the busines and close the doors.
A cursory look in Decembers Practical Photography Magazine indicates the future of photographic retail , Amazon and other huge players are moving in to the volume market and hobbyist market.
I am afraid that the sun is setting on Jessops I pretty much beleive that they will be gone by the forth quarter of 2010
I went to jessops on boxing day (moorgate branch) to have a browse, the number of staff outnumbered me 5 to 1.
None of them made any efforts, they were standing around looking at the dust gathering on the floor.
And you couldn't tell the rest of us?I bought a sigma 100-300 f4 lens which they wrongly priced on their web site as £599 instead of £1230.
Legally, they have no choice if they've already taken payment.Because they debited my card they agreed to honour the error price.

Just to let you know - Sigma 100-300mm f/4 EX DG APO IF HSM £599.00 - http://www.jessops.com/online.store...ops.com/online.store/products/32760/Show.html
in store only i think
So might be lucky ........ that was for a canon one i think
And you couldn't tell the rest of us?
Bummer, the Nikon one is full price... But, at that price, it might be worth buying some Canon glass and sticking it up for sale "as new", make a bit of a profit. So might be lucky ........ that was for a canon one i think

Err!! I see you're no finance guru then.....LOL
Dave
I'm sure they'll eventually realise the mistake, fix it, and an unopened "as new" one will sell for more than Jessops current price.Err!! I see you're no finance guru then.....LOL
My local jessops is a bit of a joke TBH.
No one ever answers the telephone....ever!
The printers are collaberated once per day, so any prints after the first run are off colour (a picture of my niece left her with a green face!!)
People are generally unhelpful and not bothered about the customer.
There seems to be a huge lack of knowledge on the product that they're trying to sell.
They sell display models at full price (no ta!)
As far as I remember they are stopping dealing with Sigma and therefore are selling off most of their stock cheap.
I peeves me that A J Purdy went bust after 70 years and Jessops have survived - so far.
