A550 is a very good camera.
As currently I am using one....
If jessops has A700 I might change it...:p

I'm fancying the a550 at the moment. Anyone got one yet?

I got mine Christmas eve as an upgrade to my slightly broken but still useable A100. Not had much chance to use it, but very impressed so far.

Just checked myself. Not available for home delivery, none showing in shops ??

I checked too.
I even checked a few places they dont have stock too.
So I dont know where can find stocks.
But if there are really some stocks.. would be a great deal for it though

And if any TP members could help out that would be also great too..

Kev

After much thought I think I'm going to upgrade to an A550, I was going to jump ship to Nikon D90

I've got a D5D and another guy on here used to have a D7D.

Can u compare the colour of the sony ones?
Are they very different?
Also people used to say minolta colour...I am not really sure what is it but then must be some unique colour from D5D/D7D

I've still got a D7D although it doesn't get much use these days.

Does the focusing system similar to A700????

That refers to the colours produced by the lenses rather than the bodies and is also true of the Sony lenses which are remanufactured Minolta designs (the 35mm f/1.4 G for example).

So do you mean that if I have Sony 50mm F1.8 and Minolta 50mm F1.7
The minolta will produce an image of minolta colour and Sony will not be able to produce an image of minolta colour as different manufactured and using the same camera body e.g. Sony A550

the Minolta Jpeg engine imho is superior to the Sony (hard to say though as I'm comparing a 12MP CMOS v a 6MP CCD). Or it could be a difference in choice of CFAs on the sensor?
having said that with post-processing you can adjust colours pretty much any way that you want after the fact
.
Minolta were (& still are) very specialist in colour - they were for example the only lens manufacturer who adjusted coatings etc. to have a consistent colour across all their lenses.

Just bought a A380 today, currently charging the battery (y)

Can anyone point me in the direction on a good bag ?

Just one for the camera and a single lens at the moment.

Thanks

congrats on your purchase..i'm sure you'll love it.

bag wise..it's probably best to get one that will allow a little growth with your equipment, and believe me...grow it will ;).

first, decide wether you want a shoulder bag or rucksack type bag...as a rucksack type bag will be more comfortable on those long hikes/lengthy periods of carrying them.lowepro and tamrac come highly recommended,as does crumpler,if you want a bag that doesn't look like a camera bag.a good source of bags is somewhere like warehouse express...take a look here...

just click on the section/manufacturer you're interested in (y)

Well done for going Sony (y) :D Shame you didn't go for the A350 deal but if you like new things then that's understandable. Also, the 18-55mm fitted to the newer Sonys is a very nice little kit lens! As for a bag, I have a Tamrac 4314 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TAMRAC-4314-TEK-DIGITAL-ZOOM-14-CAMERA-BAG_W0QQitemZ150373017036QQihZ005QQcategoryZ64336QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) and it's great for just the Camera and 1 lens. It has a pocket in the front as well which is useful for filters and 2 waterproof coatings! Seems a good all rounder.

The A350 was good deal @ £200 but the scratch was pretty bad on the LCD.

The A380 only cost £300 new so I though that too was a good deal ?

For 300 quid that was a well good deal! I just remembered reading in your other thread it was 405 new. Where did you get it from?

Well ..... I found it advertised locally for £500 ! So I e-mailed the person to find out about it. I'll cut a long story short, It was an insurance claim basically. Box still had the Sony seal on it. I haggled very hard and got it £300 (y)

They also had a 75- 225/300 (not sure) lens which I was going to have for £50 aswell but they decided to keep it and sell it on ebay as they think they will get a lot more for it.

Why they did not put the camera on I'll never know.

Just lost a Minolta 11-18mm on ebay :( Shame.

Ah well, can't argue with that! :p

Ebay definitely. Anywhere else and you'll get ripped off!

And my A200 didn't take 265 minutes to charge the first time :) It took about 2 hours or so before the light went off (that's when it's done by the way, when the light turns off).

Anyone using ggs scren protector glass for any alpha camera?

+1 for GGS (on 900)

Same as 'jonesy_ni' with regards to it being a lovely fit.

But I would say that the GGS will only protect from scratches (but is lovely and clear), where as the official Sony protector (which I lost!) would be better for direct shock to the screen.

But I obviously haven't tested both to find out which one is actually better for shock! LOL

i have just read a review on alphamountworld about the sony 28mm f2.8, it claimed to be a very good prime even though it is soft on borders it sweet spot is f5.6. i wondered whether i should get the 28mm f2.8 or the 30mm f2.8 macro. what do other alpha users think?

Well I have the 28mm F2.8 (the Minolta version, but it's the same) and it's a fantastic little lens. Excellent colours and very fast. I reckon I'd rather have the 30mm though, simply based on the fact that it has a very good macro capability, and I luurve me some macro!
