Oh and welcome to the madhouse - stick around - it's quite fun.
Now go take some photos and stick them up. Since we're in the same area they'll be interesting.
You know that you are evading tax. I know you are evading tax. Almost every poster on here knows it.
Stop kidding yourself.
Well, part of the deal with Cotswold Cameras is whether they're trading legally or on the black market. That's important to some people around here.So shall we stick to the point (Cotswold Cameras, in case anyone had forgotten), or shall I just re-register under a different name ?
Yeah, a small Moorcroft piece. I would have had to bounce and fill with flash, then process the RAW image to get something nowhere near as good with previous setup. Looks much better uncompressed (obvs!).Nice - whats the vase - moorcraft?
Archie747. As I imported it, there is no VAT to pay. There will be import duty, but part of the deal is that Cotswold Cameras pay this.
The system works in the same way that you will see gift shops offering ‘Tax free’ purchases in the UK. Shop owners do not have to charge VAT on an item if the non-EU resident buyer takes it out of the EU within 30 days (and fills in the relevant forms). I’m just doing it the other way round.
Wrong way round - theres no import duty on Camera bodies into the UK (its 9% on lenses where they arent in a kit) - but VAt at 20% is payable on import (assuming the value is properly declared and it didnt arrive labeled as low value toy parts or anything dodgy like that)
of course not every import gets stopped , and not everyone voluntarily declares if theres isnt
A mate of mine left here because of all the snide comments about buying grey.
That post is littered with inaccuracies (which Matt refuses to change), and in any case the rule has never been enforced.
Yesterday was 7 days after order, no response to the message I sent yesterday. Not looking great.
If you wanted it next day then you should've ordered UK stock. Why don't you try call 01242 378248.
: for your friendly and helpful response.
I didn't want it next day but was expecting some response and a delivery within a week, however I have just realised their website says 4-7 business days not calendar days.
I received a tracking number today so all looking good so far.
O dear. I hope it turns up soon. LIving near the Cotswolds, I checked their reviews out once and decided against. Did you use a credit card/
I thought that if you use credit card via PayPal the cc protections don’t apply?Thanks, I got a response on Friday saying they will "look into it" but it's still not here. Paid on Amex using Pay Pal so yes, it is protected. I checked the reviews and they were generally pretty good but I am currently wishing I'd used a normal shop or even bought one second hand.

Indeed, I assumed that for years. Paypal do credit now so maybe that would change it. Anyway good luck with the delivery.Well, I must confess, I assumed a credit card on Paypal was the same as a credit card direct. It looks like I have less protection than I thought. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.
From PayPal site;
Yes there is definitely protection but not as strong as Article 75 gives for credit cards (lesson learned)
Buyer Protection
If your eligible purchase doesn’t arrive, or doesn’t match the seller’s description, we can reimburse you.

That’s true but it’s up to PayPal not the law so you have to go to court if they don’t agree.From PayPal site;

Did your shipment turn up?
That’s very nearly grounds for divorce!Frustratingly my wife was out when they attempted delivery yesterday. Hoping for today
