D600 - £2000!

You can't compare the rrp of one device and the selling price of another (particularly if it's the grey market price), £2,000 is the is the rrp for the D600 while the 5D Mk III's rrp is substantially higher at £2,999. Furthermore the Canon has been out a good few months while the D600 is only just out, in that time it's dropped to £1,600 or around £1,400 for grey imports which I'm assuming is the same as the 5D mk III prices you've quoted which look too low for UK stock.

While the D600 may handle like a D7000, the sensor is clearly not like the D7000 which is the main reason to buy a D600.

Well as has been said about Jessops matching Amazon what a good price drop and in only a few weeks. Wonder how much lower the price will get by Xmas?

£1750 (body only, without any haggling) in Tottenham Court Road yesterday and plenty in stock in a few shops. Possibly £1650 with some haggling.

AP dated Sat. 13 Oct. has a 5 page review of the D600.

I'd be interested to see how you get on as I currently have a D90 and want to go ff. Things that put me off the d600 (on paper) are the af points, max shutter speed and flash sync speed. Not sure if it makes a real world difference though.

Shaheed, the difference is massive.

I already absolutely love this camera. Yes the AF points are closer together but I think I'll be able to live with that. I shot a friend's gig in a pub last week and the ISO performance was simply amazing when compared to the D90 (and I still have man love for my D90). It's a whole new beast and is going to take some getting used to for me. I was shooting mainly at ISO 3200 and 4000 and there was virtually no notable noise and if there was any it was cleared up very easily in Lightroom. I'll be pushing the limits further next time to see what I can get away with.

You can see the shots in my Flickr link. I'm not saying they are the best in the world but will hopefully give you an idea (nothing under 3200, tho NR added in Lightroom). This place was beautiful but awful in terms of lighting for photos. They have also come out a fair bit darker on Flickr than when viewed in LR.

It's some camera.(y)

Cheers, I'll have a look and see. I love my d90 but want that bit extra! The d600 will be within price range sooner that the d800. I've played with a d800 but not a d600 yet!

I see you're from wallington. I grew up round Sutton and went to school there (wilsons).

Well I have gone and bitten the bullet, Picked one up today from Jessops £1615.00. I know the price will drop further but it had reached a point that I was happy to cough up.

Well done! At that price it looks like a killer camera. It's release price made no sense, but now it's getting closer to the 1500 mark it is a great deal if you ask me.

The price seems to be coming down by the week thankfully, hope you can pick one up soon. You'll love it.

I moved to Wallington a few years back. Might have to get myself down to Beddington park for some shots later (if it ever stops raining!).:)

Interesting...I did some digging last night and found the D600 sensor is ranked higher than that in the D4!

With more dynamic range, resolution, better IQ and 0.1 fstops better low light capability, their low end FF outranks the top of the range.

So unfortunate about the AF though!

Known problem with robot-led production lines :D

How many of D3 / D700 owners here are looking to buy D600 as a second body, especially to use for Landscape etc.,

I'm saving up for a full frame body. D700/600/800.

Main thing is a D700 will allow me more money on lenses though I will have three i could use already think i'd have to go for the 24-70f2.8 beast - be rude not to :)

The D600 seems more likely especially with prices coming down but it will have to be gripped.

The D800 is viable if i get alot more photography work booked in the coming months.

D4 if i win the lotto :D

Well after a couple of days with mine I am chuffed to bits.
Ok so it has centrally clustered focus points which everyone seems to pick up on but it's not an issue for me, The autofocus is fast and accurate. I have a Tamron 90 macro which used to feel slow and hunt quite a bit on the D5100 on the D600 it has been transformed , it is now a lot faster and hits focus first time.
Of the few indoor shots I have done the image quality has been superb. looking forward to trying it out properly at the weekend..

I did my first proper shoot with the D600 today. And for the first time I was able to work on the RAW files via the new DNG converter. And (surprisingly) I was very pleased with results. You can see them on my FB page if you want (Ryan Jarvis Photography).

I've considered it as I've got a D3 coming today as my new main body. I'd only use the D600 for landscape and specific product shots where I need more mp. Thats literally it though as I don't shoot video anyway and the centred AF point position on the D600 is irrelevant for studio and landscape work anyway.

I'm still thinking. Was very happy with my D3 as alround camera until recently went to Wales with a friend who had 5D II and his landscape pictures were really better than what I could manage. Since then was eagerly waiting for dust to settle down(price) and get a D600. AF issues won't bother me as i use zeiss manual lenses for landscape and I'm not really interested in D800 due to file size and price.:)

In what way were your friends piccies better? You have to remember there are many components to making excellent images, camera, lens, technique and most importantly the carbon based life form pressing the buttons

Not sure about D3, as they will be using that for specific reasons, but D700? I would think the D700 would become the second body if it was me.

D700 owners would probably beg to differ but with a higher pixel count & better dynamic range i can understand that

I bought myself the D600 & 24-85mm kit from Jessops at the end of last week. So far very happy with the purchase. I swapped from an OMD-EM5 with the 25mm F1.4 which I thought was a very very good camera, but even with that lens wasn't particularly happy with the subject isolation I was getting. Also tried the 45mm F1.8 and again the combination is very good, but not delivery what I wanted. So using the 30 exchange policy I swapped to the D600 kit and the 50mm F1.8G and am very happy.

Its altogether a different camera and I sold up all my previous cameras and lenses to switch to the OMD so it was a big decision to switch the the D600 but I think the right one...its going to be a journey of discovery I think ;)

Welcome to forum. Let us know how you like D600...;)

under £1600 now at Jessops with discount code JESDSLR50

John Lewis pricing as mad as ever - £2444 (inc 24-85 Kit lens). Never Knowingly Undersold apparently!

They'll price match thou so I guess they see it as ok being near £400 more than I paid for mine

So just a couple of shots I took with it at the weekend, cropped a bit but other than that straight out the camera. These were using the 50mm F1.8G.

They can occasionally be quite 'sharp' with their price match promise.

When attempting a price match recently i was asked if the other vendor offered a 2 year guarantee, and since they didn't John Lewis declined to price match.

That sounds like a bit of a policy change. 8-10 years ago I worked a few Christmas periods for John Lewis, and at first it was they would match any price, including the Internet, then that unsurprisingly changed to local shops, as long as they had the stock.

Because they offer a 5 year guarantee on TVs, many people would come to get a TV price matched, and then buy from John Lewis, so the guarantee was their edge to get a sale. They would always price match though if the rival shop had the stock.

If they are offering better guarantees than their rivals, then they could decline any price match with this current approach. It could may a mockery of their 'Never knowingly undersold' slogan. It would be interesting to know how much they are valuing their guarantees.

Maybe it should now be 'Never knowingly undersold (as long as the opposition have the same guarantee)'. ;)

SO a question for people who have owned Nikon before, as I haven't, is it usual for the lenses to be audible when focusing in video mode? Its not loud but loud enough to be picked up when ever focusing.
