Whilst working from home I regularly see the kites circling above the gardens looking for prey. In the last couple of days I've kept my D850 set up with the 200-500 F/5.6 near to hand. Every time I see them I grab the camera and try for a shot or two. Typically, now I'm waiting for them the weather is sh!te and the sky is grey. Oh... and the kites cleared off. :(
Today I saw them but they were around 50-100 yards away and I ran out to try a couple of shots. The lens was at full stretch and wide open, hand-held and struggling.
Out of 13 shots taken I ended up with the following grainy images that took a rake of rescuing in LR.
I know they are way off your usual quality but I'm quite pleased with my first attempt.

Thanks for looking. (y)

Lovely shots. I've been trying to photograph them for the last couple of months and they are truely beautiful creatures.

Nice! And at least they have the good grace to swoop low down, unlike my local buzzards who maintain a strict 500ft holding pattern!
