HAPPY 90th Birthday Ma'am

I sense a move to hot topics....

If the benefit scrounging, layabout, opinion crew arrive anyway.

Question is....is she a member?
Maybe it was her that posted that lovely landscape set from Balmoral recently? Beginning to regret pointing out the horizon was wonky on most of them. I shall avoid driving through road tunnels for a while.

Very prudent; although I suspect you'd have to have miffed off Phil the Greek to warrant that kind of "ahem" attention :D

I'd be glad to wish her a happy birthday, IMHO she personally has been fantastic for this country with a true sense of duty. I shudder at the thought of here today gone tomorrow alternatives.

Big LIKE !

From me, wonderful woman and a fantastic Monarch.

long may she reign :)

I shall sit back and observe. We shall soon see who is a royalist and who is not!

I'm not a Royalist but I do think the monarchy is a fantastic asset to the United Kingdom.

In addition to that, if you break it down we're celebrating the 90th Birthday of a Wife, Mother, Grand Mother, Great Grand Mother, Auntie etc who isn't only dedicated to her family but also has worked on behalf of her country for the vast majority of her life, that in itself (IMO) is cause for respect and recognition.

Not a role myself (or probably a lot of people) would be willing to undertake for any amount of money.

Not only our longest reigning monarch, but also our oldest by quite some margin. :)

I am not a Royalist in any shape or form but the Queen has been steadfast in her role and that despite the old geezer she got lumbered with, (I have a soft spot for him - the Everglades), has never failed to impress.

I personally believe the time has come to retire the monarchy and disband the current unelected upper house in parlisment.

Charles as King? Do me a favour. They broke the mould with the current Queen - irreplaceable.

.

That's a nice, sanitary, term for a coup d'etat, yes? ;)

Not really

It's better to just disband the whole nonsense, than dragging them onto a cart and taking them to a public square to say hello to a Louisette....... as was done in a close by French speaking country.....

I think you'll find it's a tad more complicated than simply "disbanding".

Ooo I missed the memo on this, what time is the party and do we need to bring our own food?

Just another process.....

As 'el presidente' I could get it all sorted in ... say 5, maybe 10 but no more than 15 years.

Well she looked in her element today and walking among the well wishers and accepting all sorts of gifts flowers and cards, regal and of the people at the same time.

Agree with having a royal family or not they are, like other things woven into the very fabric of what it is to be British.

I'm none of the above except perhaps opinionated. My opinion gels pretty much with Mr Jarse's up there ^ and am in agreement with Hardeep Kohli "Today might be the day to reflect upon a society predicated on entitlement. Happy birthday to all those hard working women who didn't see 90"

Yes I will agree with that My Mum included, My post was not meant to exclude those who are not The Queen.

And the fact that she's queen makes no difference whatsoever to the fact that folk die at all different ages.

I hope I look as good at 90 :D I plan on recreating that steps/dogs photo with jack russels and the steps to my 3 bed semi.

I suspect she's had better medical care than most.

Never had to work two or three jobs to pay the bills.
Never had to go hungry so her children can eat.
never had to scrimp and save and go without to give her children a half decent education.
Etc.
Etc.

I'm sure her life has it's stresses mind, I'm sure it's not been all plain sailing but all in all the chances of her reaching 90 were always going to be an order of magnitude higher than most 'ordinary' folk.

And yet she's the only English monarch to ever do so.

I think it's got more to do genes than anything else. Her mother was about 101 when she died IIRC?

Quite possibly, however her father was only 56.
Six of one and half a dozen of the other.

and she hasn't sponged a single bit of it from the NHS.

I wouldn't suggest otherwise, though since she's paid for by us technically we're paying either way.

True, "we" pay towards the cost of the monarchy, but not nearly as much as you might think.

Indeed... For everyone.

Though not everyone has such easy access.

Never had to sit for hours in Emergency waiting on medical attention.
Never had to wait weeks to visit her local surgery
and then see a tired worn out GP for 12 minutes hoping it's long enough for them to diagnose.
Never had to wait months for an appointment with a specialist.
Never had to hope her NHS trust had a doctor with the right skill set and the funding to give the treatment she needed.
Never had to wait months for a hospital bed to come free.

But then that could be said for a lot of people who've been born into money but give very little back to their own community, let alone country.

Very true, but this thread is about the Queen.
