Critique required LC2's Shoe Horns for 2023 : Week 52 - Showcase

Fab stuff - shot two was on my list :)
I thought it might be ;)
First shot of the connecting rod is brilliant. Viewed full screen it really pops. Both from the colour of the red and the focus on the nut with the beautiful fall off of focus through the frame.

Very nice!
Yes, having the rods in red, rather than the bare metal of steam locos, does work well.
Nice pics cosplay shot is really good works with the BG as you say

The first shot of the connecting rods and the one of the shackles work for me.
Cheers Allan, I did try to get a few shots that fitted that background. She's actually from a game called Genshin Impact.
I nearly went with the shackles. It was a close run thing.
That's a lot of connections and any one of the pictures could fill the brief very well, but I think you chose the correct one for the headliner.
Cheers
Image 2 for me as well, all nice shots.
Interesting, I think that was my 4th choice of the 4 posted.
Some great images. The red stands out really well against the background. I'm with you on the chosen shot with a nice dof.
Thanks Helen
Nice set, I like your chosen image.
:)
Good set with #1 followed closely by #2 for me. As others said the contrast between the red and black really makes it pop
Another vote for #2 then. What draws you to it?
Nice set. #1 for me too (y)
Thanks

Different take on the theme, which I always like. Amazing how good cameras on phones have become.

Cheers Roger. I must say the G31 is years ahead of the old G6 I used to use.
Good shot and a good choice for the theme, any idea what beer was in them?
The Alfreds would have been Saxon Bronze
The Triple fff was Moondance and Alton's Pride
The two tone green stripes are Bowmans, but I don't know which beers.
The green and orange kegs are probably Steam Town Brewery (but I'm not sure).

We should be adding another 9 kegs to that pile tonight :)

Like the way the rails lead you into the image, good composition.

I like that a lot Tim, although may have cropped out the platform in the bottom left, but then you'd have lost some of the track.

Thanks Roger. I was aiming for a shot that would give me leading lines and the ability to place the loco on a 3rd.

I know what you mean, but leaving the platform in place the photo at a station.

Catching up. Two good images Tim.
Liquid - I'd be more interested in seeing what's inside, I have to say...
Distant - this is a great shot, the processing really makes it pop

Liquid: great idea, made me smile. The colours really make it.
Distant: before reading your description I thought the image looked like some old ones I have... well processed and composed.

The barrels took me back to my Welsh Brewers days, 22 gallon tubs by the look of it. Heavy when full.

I can't remember what I did with that processing. I really should make notes ;)

Just 9 gallon kegs, but still heavy enough when you have to shift them vertically about 4' above the ground on your own.

Week 33 - Machine

I took 3 different shots for Machine.

Firstly the Southern Railway S15 class loco, 506.

Secondly this shot is swarf from machining.

Lastly, the connecting rods from the O8 Shunter - Phoenix

it really did come down to #2 or #3. #2 would have pipped it if I had used a smaller aperture and had more in focus, but overall, I thought #3 just slightly better.

Good portrait, like the positioning of the light in the BG. The desaturated look of the BG makes the subject really pop.

Week 22 - Irregular

Not the most technically perfect photo, but I feel that "Mr B, The Gentleman Rhymer" typifies "Irregular" in the meaning of "contrary to the rules of what is normal" in that the city banker suit and hat contrast with his wacky style and the Uke.

Probably not a performance I would have normally attended, but I did enjoy the 30 minutes or so of his set that I was shooting.

Week 25 - Snappers Choice

Snappers Choice for me was always going to be a cosplay shot.
Here we have Phil cosplaying Edward Kenway from the video game Assassin's Creed IV

Although I was tempted by this shot as Sylvester photobombed us while we were preparing for a Whovian group shot at Showmasters Bournemouth.

Week 31 - Abandoned

The entrance to the abandoned and bricked up Asylum Dock on the Grand Union Canal, near the bottom of the Hanwell flight.
Asylum Dock was an small branch of the GUC that provided canal access into the Middlesex County Asylum (now Ealing Hospital).
There is nothing left to see w=except for the bricked up entrance.

A really good shot Tim. Your commentary really helps with the context. I found a really interesting article about it on this Wikipedia page: LINK

Thanks Bill. Yes, that is an interesting read :)
There is also an info board (out of shot) giving some info, and picturing a barge strike breaking (crewed by the Royal Navy with a police escort) in (I think) the 1920s.
