I've bought an old 35mm f/2.8 Helios M42 mount lens and an M42 to EOS adapter to use with my 650D.

When I first turned the camera on I got an "Err 01" message about the camera and lens not communicating, and now all I get is "Firmware update failed" and "You need to insert a memory card with the latest firmware on it".

Is there a fix for this or is it a problem with the M42 to EOS mount?

Does your M42 to EF adaptor have the flange to hold the pins in ?

Buy the adapter without the AF Confirm chip on it. I modified the pin so it was usable again if I need it to be at a later date by taking of the back of the lens and used a ribinna straw about 2mm to keep the pin down and not destroying the lens if that helps I use these lenses on my 600D camera, gotta say, I Love these lenses cheep as chips and had some fantastic shots with the Bokeh in the background got 8 of them so far.

Thanks for that advice Mikco72 - I'll give that a go at the weekend :)
