I am shocked they aren't four engined - they really should have more power on them

I'm guessing that they are designed to carry volume rather than weight - basically airbus wings which are relatively light without engines on them - so the power is sufficient on one engine to maintain level flight at mtow.

It has to be - the engineering capacity is there with the A340 wing - which can take 2x Trent 500's. Given these are based on the A330 (or am I wrong and it's the older A300 type) a 4 engine design would be do-able but obviously unnecessary as it copes with two.
