Well I suppose this might be a daft question but instead of using a ND filter which look quite expensive, wouldn`t it be possible to get away with using a couple of stacked polarisers, at least to start off with?
 
I've only ever used stacked polarisers once (for exactly the reason you are suggesting!). The image was terrible.
 
A cheap pair of dark sun glasses would probably do the same jon as the polarizers.


Is there much difference in price between polarizers and ND filters? I bought an ND [Hoya pro1] on amazon last week, it was about £50, but I'm sure I saw polarizers for not much cheaper.
 
Ah crap, if I'd seen that a few days ago ... no ND grads on there unfortunately. I could get another ND4. Anyone received and tested them?
