Hey guys.


I'm a uni student and i'm writing a paper on nude photography. what i need to know is, what are YOUR opinions on nude photography? Do you find it shocking, appealing, do you think its distasteful etc. Any opinion you have on nude photography, i want to know it. Also, if you could give a reason as to why you have that opinion it'd be brilliant.

oh and also, if you know of any good sites where i can get like an opinion poll or something that'd be awesome!!!

if it's good i like it and if it's not i don't, to me it's just photography like any other subject

you can probably do a poll on deviantart and i think also on here but make sure your questions aren't loaded and have enough options
 
There are plenty of letchy types who take 'art' 'nudes' of 'models' for their own private collection ;)... the key giveaway is those workshops on modelmayhem which say 'you can bring your own, but cameras are provided' :p

Common trends in this lot are slightly, uh, larger, models, bright coloured underwear, and tacky corny poses, bright lighting (usually on white) and 'comedy' props such as sweets etc...

HOWEVER fine art nudes can be fantastic, it's all a case of the perspective of both the photographer and the model, and their true intentions.
 
itsdavedotnet i can see where your coming from on the modelmayhem subject - i'm a user of mayhem myself but i do tend to lean towards the more tasteful side of nude photography
 
I keep getting arrested when I try it, apparently walking around with no clothes on doesn't make you a nude photographer!
 
There's a time and a place for nudity in photos. I agree with itsdavedotnet, fine art nudes can be brilliant. If it's just someone posing half-naked in front of a mirror with their little compact point & shoot camera, there's really no artistic merit. If it's a properly 'staged' shot where lighting, exposure, composition etc has been properly thought out, the results can be stunning.

There is in my opinion a place for Nude photography when done tastefully. Its not as if there is a fine line between Nude photography and pornographic material.
I had my first go at photographing a Nude model (my fiancee to be precise) only 2 weeks ago. To be honest she wasn't too sure about it to start with. After finishing the session she was amazed at the results and wanted them publishing and even printing and hanging in the house

If you get chance take a look.

There is far too much "Tacky" photography IMO which does nothing to capture the beauty of either the female or male form. We shouldnt be ashamed of ourselves and any model doesnt need to be a site zero to look good.
 
Interesting first post and welcome.

I suppose it'll be depending on who you target. I was going to say target the WI and you may get a different response to photographers, but then I remembered Calendar Girls ;)

Define nude photography? It offers so many variations from fine art, through page 3 to pornography.

I saw a recent article about a study on the effects on pornography failed as they couldn't find any subjects that hadn't seen any.

As Dave says Artistic/fine art nude can be fantastic, I'm working on such a project at the moment. Photographs of plastic fantastic girls are usually taken for a reason, yep. corny poses, pouts, chests thrust forward.... not my find of art. Many models from places like mm who have been snowed under with male photographers wanting them to pose nude.... and many of the girls think its for their own gratification :shake:

Do nude images shock me, no, nothing really shocks me.

Survey done... That was easy! ;)

Nude photography is just a style like any other... Some like it, some don't. I'm a member of ModelMayhem as well and I've never asked for or gone looking for a girl to shoot nude. My fiance fills that gap for me but if I were asked, I'd be quite happy to do it.

As with landscape photography; it's not necessarily what you include, it's what you leave out that can make or break the image..

I ticked the box for you, but for stat analysis, you could do with more info from the user to id their demographic for example, and their lifestyles???

a single question wont help much as a questionnaire (y)
