Hey TPer's;

I know a lot of you must have Wordpress sites for your photography ventures, please share your experiences and how you rate wordpress, hosting, and of course, your site URLs... (y)

I'm thinking of making one myself and would love to see some examples from other tog enthusiasts.

James.

That's very nice that is Ian, I like that!

It really depends what you want from a site and how you want to use it.

Do you want to use it for fun or for business, are you looking to drive business to/from it?

I took a basic template and hacked the CSS about a bit to fit my needs. I was aiming for something that looked clean and easy to navigate through.

The end goal is for me to drive some business through it, but as I mainly do Black and White and Landscape / Seascape I am not really sure if there is a market for this genre.

I've also got one - www.davefrost.co.uk
Mostly for fun. Easy to use, easy to change the layout when you get bored with it and most of all free !!! My old site was hand coded in notepad and I'd never ever tit about doing anything like that again.

Hosting I'm happy with too - ukwebhostingsolutions Does what it says on the tin and only had a half day of downtime in 2 years.

I want to use it mainly for fun, but with the firm long-term goal of showcasing my work in order to sell my photographic services to people and businesses. when I can afford to upgrade my gear, that is.

It is quite specialist if all you want to do is drive business for the B&W & Landscape side. I see from your main site you also do other more more commercial offerings as well.

The first thing to do is to establish your blog page and work from there. Wordpress is a fantastic, flexible tool for that. As others have said and shown, there is little that can't be done with it.

However, it's only one way to sell your photographic services to people and businesses nowadays. Today, you have to use all of the available resources at hand! :)

My site is Wordpress powered. The link is in my sig. The theme was designed and built by myself. For small CMS websites I swear by it. Need any advice on build or functionality give me a shout. It's far from complete; still working on a mobile version and optimised performance. Lots of tutorials online. If you want to start building your own theme take a look at the one that comes with it to familiarise yourself with some of the functionality. Also the official docs at the Wordpress site are invaluable for beginners.

I've played around with it for a while and find it great, I can't do code but it let's me get a site for my photos (just for sharing, not commercial) with minimum fuss.

Nice!
I like it. :) well done, Matt. hope mine will look that good, one day.

Cheers Jammy, thanks for the comments. I wish I could claim it was all skill and design talent, but actually it's a theme from ThemeForest and NextGen Gallery, a free photo gallery plugin.

I started wordpress at the beginning of this week, never done anything like this before, and my last site was entirely flash. So if I'm honest I'm struggling through trying to learn how to use it properly.

I use the photocrati theme. IMO it was worth the $70 or so I paid for it, it's easier to use than the ones I found on there....
