My apologies if there is already a thread on this.

I am travelling around Indochina for six months from September. I want to take my 60D and a couple of lenses. Can anyone suggest a good comprehensive insurance provider?

I'm also toying with taking my macbook so I can edit as I travel. Is this wise or should I just take a few HDs.

Thanks in advance for any advice you guys can give.

Now be honest Tommy, once you have the answer you seek, will you ever grace us with your presence again, or did you join the forum literally to have that one question answered?

Ha that's very clinical of you indeed Ruth!

Am I here for the answer to this question? Of course.

You might notice I've enabled people to edit my images. I think this shows some willing to get involved in this community.

Anything else I say are just words, so there's no point.

(Nice welcome by the way. Do they always send you as the welcome wagon?)

How long until you're going? As recently I got a quote from somewhere - then while I was thinking about it a few days later - they sent a discount code for 20 percent off the first year's premium - so I took it :) Is there time to get a quote and wait a few days?

As wave01 says, check your household policy, or ask your insurer if you are covered. . Otherwise, a standard travel policy will usually allow you to cover a number of items as long as they don't individually exceed a certain amount. Remember that your 60D body is a single item, as is each lens. This is likely to be cheaper than specialist camera insurance which you don't really need unless you have some super-expensive kit. Moneysavingexpert is a good place to look for info.

I wonder if the OP got his cover.

Well I would like to know because funny enough I'm looking for insurance for my camera and a couple of lenses before I go away on the 2nd May for two weeks.
Non of the online travel insurance quotes mentions cameras or lenses, most call electrical items "gadgets" ie; mobile phones/ipads/tablets and so on, none seem to mention camera equipment.

and no, my household insurance does not cover me whilst abroad, at least I cannot see any mention of it.

What you need to look for is "personal possessions away from home" on your household policy. It will be an additional premium, but more reasonable than stand alone camera insurance.

thanks heather
might give them a ring tonight and see if I can add my camera on to it.
