    Network switch problems

Definitely the way to go, terminating sockets is so much easier than trying to get 8 cables into the RJ45 connector in the right order. By the way, the different coloured light on the switch is likely due to a different negotiation speed - perhaps a printer that can only support 100Mbit not 1GBit.

Beginner Move from Fuji to Nikon - cheaper to buy my son his first SLR then

Just as an example - I picked up an X-E1 and a 16-50mm zoom (separately) on this forum for about £220 total. More than adequate for a beginner and compatible with your existing kit :)

    Uses for a dead iMac?

There's no need to dismantle - hold T key down and boot. That should put the machine into target disk mode. Plug in to another Mac using Thunderbolt or FireWire and the drive will appear as an external device on the working Mac. From there you can copy and/or delete date, erase the drive...

    Apple time capsule?

Biggest advantage of Time Capsule is that you can put it somewhere away from your computer. If someone steals the machine, they might not see/steal the TC. As others have pointed out, you need to ensure your photos are stored in at least 2 places - moving them to an external drive of any kind...

    Image size reduction help

You can use Photoshop's automation to do this (File>Automate>Batch). First create an action that does what you want, then you can use the batch command to apply it to an entire folder/tree. It's also possible to specify a different output destination, so you could resize and write direct to the...

    Help! Macbook Pro SSD Upgrade

The simple answer is that the HDD interface is faster than the DVD one, You won't get the full speed benefit if you put the SSD in place of the DVD. ETA - HDD interface is 6Gbps, DVD is 3 or 6Gbps but Apple does not recommend using 6Gbps devices in it.

Can't drag files up or down in finder window on Mac, please help.

I'm having similar issues here - there are a couple of workarounds: If you're using a trackpad, click on the file(s) with one finger, drag slightly and then use 2 additional fingers to scroll up/down. Open a second Finder window/ tab, click/drag to the other window/tab. Add the destination...

Well there goes LINUX reputation as a strong bullet proof platform

All operating systems have flaws, the trick is to minimise the impact of exploits with carefully designed networks and security procedures. Running a 10+ year old version of Apache is like leaving your front door wide open with a big sign saying "steal my stuff" outside it.

    I Mac help please

Check your mail account settings are correct in Mail>Preferences>Accounts. If you have 2 factor authentication enabled for your Google account (and if not, why?!), you may need to set up an application password: https://support.google.com/accounts/troubleshooter/3141849?hl=en#ts=3141880

    Home Network Query

It sounds to me that at your previous house, the desktop PC was connected via wireless and Ethernet, which is possible but unnecessary. As Broc said, don't worry about it. :)

    i mac 21inch 4k screen

RAM is now soldered to the logic board of all current Macs apart from the Pro and 27" iMac. The keyboard and mouse are meant to take 2 or 3 minutes to charge for up to 9 hours use, a couple of hours for about a month of usage.

    macbook pro 17 repairs

At the end of June, the last 17" model (late 2011) will no longer be supported by Apple*. The earlier models are already obsolete. This means it will no longer be possible for authorised repair centres to order parts. You may have better luck with a non-authorised repair shop, but it is time...
