As said above, get an arc compatible L bracket. I've had a Benro GD3WH for 5 years and used it extensively with the L bracket so you can instantly switch from landscape to portrait orientation. Not used it for portraits but really can't see any problem whether you are "serious" or not.
I haven't used the Nisi filter set for the X100 but did purchase the pouched set in anticipation of buying a X100. This never happened so I have a brand new, never used Nisi filter set which I can put on the classifieds if there's any interest.
TG, if you do decide to sell your H & Y holder then I'd be very interested. I've been using one for about 4 years and love it. It's a bit battered and abused now after lots of use in the moutons so keen to replace it.
Elgol never fails to give whatever the state of the weather or tide. It's only a short drive from where we live so it's often visited all year round. This photo was taken last week when bad weather and the end of peak tourist season meant we were the only ones on the beach. Taken whilst testing...
I've been very impressed by Benro tripods and heads. Here's a link to a review I did of their TMA28C and B1 ballhead;

Thanks for the positive comments and a special thanks to anybody who has already voted for me in the competition. I don't know about "buttock clenching scary" but I guess everyone has their own thresholds of fear and once I'm out of my own personal comfort zone then I'm definitely not a happy...
For anyone interested in Skye then I have just put up a few photos from Elgol on a separate thread since this one is getting a bit long.

NB there is still time to vote in the UK Mountain Photo of the Year...
Just back from Skye and after the interest generated by my Cuillin competition entries

thought people might like to see a few from the village of Elgol;
Park by the waterworks at Belstone and walk up to the Nine Maidens stone circle and up the ridge above for good views of the moor, typical moorland scenery and good scope for sunset and or sunrise shots.
