Sorry for the late reply..had to check photos on the my main machine as I couldn't see the difference on my mobile device.
Cannot decide which one is better..staright from the camera looks slightly more natural and yet the background is a bit distracting, like you said. I think you did the...
How about using a lastolite hilite? Although pushing it, you could light it with one speedlight, plus you need a strobe head/speedlight + reflector to light subject.
If you will use it once in a blue moon, then it might be cheaper to go to a studio!
Aha, interesting you mention that! What was Nikon's/ Sony's response to problematic batteries? A recall/ extensive replacement programme, plus no doubt a full investigation of why it happened and how it can be avoided in the future. 7daysshop's response of my incident was.... SHRUG.

Well unfortunately when I contacted 7dayshop they just shrugged their shoulders. It would have been nice if they offered me a tour of their supplier factory to reassure me that they take quality and safety seriously, and so that I can dispel my shred of evidence (or lack thereof as you say).

Long term solution: underfloor heating
Short...
The way I understand it is that the 600 and 1200 share the same battery and head housing, but different generators and flash tubes.
You might be risking blowing the 600 tube if you run it off the A port of the 1200 at the setting No.5. Should be safe to use off the B port. Make sure you can...
