    Colour space? Banding in images

Until everyone that is viewing your images online is using a wide gamut monitor calibrated to full gamut and also uses a color managed browser, you still need to use sRGB for the web.

Confused about custom colour profile and Lightroom's export embedding

Use Gamma 2.2 :) You'll need to experiment with luminance a bit. For my room light setting 120 is too bright which would result in prints being too dark. 100 for me is perfect. If your room is brighter than mine then 120 could be just right. Best way in my experience is to edit some images...

Confused about custom colour profile and Lightroom's export embedding

Well, I'd think using the x-rite defaults would probably work well. For my (not x-rite) software I have some options regarding the gamut to calibrate to. I'd pick FULL gamut since the others are a simulation. Not sure what the options are for your x-rite software but here's a few settings...

Confused about custom colour profile and Lightroom's export embedding

Export with your images tagged as sRGB and you'll be fine. Frankly, don't even think about using aRGB or any other colorspace as part of your workflow until you get a great grasp of color management. With sRGB and a properly set-up/calibrated system: The colors will always look fine on a...

Confused about custom colour profile and Lightroom's export embedding

When you view an sRGB image on a wide gamut monitor (which it sounds like your calibrated screen is) then you need to view images with a color managed application or else they will look overly contrasty and over-saturated. I don't believe Windows Photo Viewer is color managed, or at least if it...

    Photobooks

I been doing a bit of research today and to be fair to Blurb, so far it seems like all of the photo book companies that I have access to in North America other than AdoramaPix are CMYK. The AdoramaPix pages are essentially two photographic prints glued back to back (making the pages pretty...

    Photobooks

i just got a book back from Blurb and I have to say that while it's OK, I wasn't overly impressed. I used their top line Pro-Line paper and it was no better than what they had a number of years ago. It's equivalent to a good quality magazine, but certainly no where near as good as what...

    Lightroom 5 slowing down?

Just checking, but your catalog and previews aren't on an external drive ... correct? LR would be pretty slow if that were the case. I have a feeling it's Norton causing your pain though :)

    Lightroom 5 slowing down?

I was referring to automatic catalog backups that are produced by Lightroom at the frequency you've set under Edit -> Catalog Settings -> General tab, not your system backups. Those are located wherever you have your Catalog located. For speed the catalog and previews should always be on a...

    Lightroom 5 slowing down?

Check your data disk and SSD boot disk to see if they are getting full. I set my automatic backup to once per week but need to purge backup files every three months or else my SSD boot drive (I have previews and backups on my boot SSD) will fill up.

    Reccomendations for book on CS6

Good choices :) Also, once you know your way around CS6 a bit and have some time it's worthwhile to take the free trial of Lynda.com and run through a few of the Photoshop courses. Only "downside" is that you might like Lynda.com enough to buy a subscription (I had one for a couple of years)...

free Software for viewing Nikon DF RAW / NEF files???

Another option is to convert to DNG first then import the DNG's into LR: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5864 (Windows)

Computers - What have you tweaked today?

Thank Neil. Yes, I have a cable connection.

Computers - What have you tweaked today?

What's a good result for broadband downloads/uploads these days? I jump around from 20 to 34 Mbps for downloads, but pretty steady at 3.2 Mbps for uploads. My provider claims my plan is "up to" 50 Mbps for downloads, but I've never seen that number reached.

Computers - What have you tweaked today?

My boot drive (SSD) on my Win 8.1 desktop was getting full and flagged as red (<9GB left) so I: 1. Deleted a bunch of LR backups, >8GB 2. Moved my iTunes backup folder to a different drive using mklink (symbolic link), 4GB 3. Moved my Windows/Installer folder to a different drive using...
