Yeah that's probably fair crit to be honest - I should have pointed out that most of these were images I never used, shot in among jobs where I chose to publish other images instead. The others did tend to have a bit more breathing space around them. For example the Tornado shoot: Spitfire:

Cheers guys! The girder is there to help retain some realism in the wall - as the textures are 2D, there is no real 'depth' to them when their perspective is changed (as you would get in reality). That becomes more obvious on larger surfaces, so the girder handily splits the wall in two.

Perhaps its a combination of lifting the shadows and edge-sharpening (effectively what clarity does) that has caused the issues - they are also present on the airship. These are the areas that stand out - this is with the clarity reduced to -100 and you'll see the artefacts are still there...
