The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

This is what I ended up doing when I started looking for a "cheap" Fuji camera for my son, I bought myself an X-H2s and let him use the X-T2.

Advice on buying a standalone camera

If possible I would try to go a generation newer with Fuji - the X-T2/X-T20 generation cameras are still good, but the X-T3/X-T30 that replaced them are easier to live with, they have better connectivity and autofocus.

Is Nikon or Sony any better?

I think all the camera companies are much the same - they all have slight pros and cons, but any new kit is going to be good. Having said that, I always try to buy from my local camera shop (LCE in my case) - you can see things before buying and know if the box has been opened etc.

Beginner Purchase of a travel photography tripod - advices required

The Neewer tripod looks very much "inspired by" by the Peak Design tripod that I use. If compactness when folded is a priority it should be a good shout.

New LG TV versus Amazon Firestick speeds

As above, wired connection is better if possible. Things I would check are 2.4GHz vs 5GHz wireless bands and signal strength, there may be a diagnostic screen on the TV. I had new doors fitted upstairs and that knocked my wifi signal enough that the 5GHz signal wasn't getting through and it...

They are generic lenses that are available for different mounts, so I image it is to have the minimum difference between versions for each mount. Removing a switch would mean that the tooling for the lens body would need to be redone.

I would say that is past its best. I have found that third party batteries get to that point quicker than the Fuji batteries, so I have been sticking to Fuji. And writing the purchase date on them with a sharpie.

I like to have raw on one card and Joeg on the other, so that when I plug the card into Lightroom I only get the raws. I also like having the jpegs for use with XApp on my phone, to pull an image to share quickly without going through Lightroom. It is a case of whatever works for you. I prefer...

Mac mini as NAS alternative setup?

Not very useful if you need to access it from multiple devices concurrently though... My plan is sort of to bury my head in the sand and home my Synology carries on... They seem to support older hardware for longer than Apple, my 2018 model is still getting the latest updates. Realistically...

    PlusNet woes

I expect that they are shutting down the copper network at that location, and as Plusnet are broadband only you are being moved to their sister company who offer a digital voice service. You will not be able to carry on with the existing contract because the infrastructure that it comes through...

The Sigma zooms look nice and compact, but I couldn't get past the lack of aperture ring, and the zoom being the opposite way around to Fuji lenses. The 16-50 looks like a good little lens, and will likely be my next purchase, as my son keeps borrowing my 18-55. I guess if you were pairing the...

Beginner Canon EOS R7 + Canon 100-400mm or OM-1 Mark II + M.Zuiko Digital ED 75-300mm II (or ED 100-400mm)

I think either, would be good, or indeed the Sony option mentioned. Even as a Fuji fan I wouldn't go for a Fuji option at that budget. I believe that Canon (as well a Fuji) do free 48 hour loans of kit, because often spec sheets do not tell the full story and you need to get the camera in your...

A7C zoom lens for an enthusiast

I shoot Fuji (another option worth considering if you like the styling of the A7C), but the compromises are the same for all camera systems - you can have a “do it all” lens, it will be medium sized and you won’t need to change lenses, or you can have a few lenses - a wide lens (could be the...
