    Canon EF 24-70L f2.8 or EFS 17-55 IS f2.8

Sorry- forgot to say I'm on a crop body. The wide angle isn't the prime motivation for the new lens. I want to continue getting the great quality of shots I'm currently getting of the family with the 70-200, without having to keep backing away (especially when indoors, when sometimes there isn't...

    Canon EF 24-70L f2.8 or EFS 17-55 IS f2.8

I received some great advice from here a year ago and was hoping for a repeat performance. I currently have the EF 70-200 F4 IS (along with the standard kit lens). I'm now looking to buy a second decent lens for my bag and I am considering the two lenses mentioned in the title. I'm basically...

Can a lens be too good for a camera?

Can a lens be too good for a camera?

Ah…my inexperience shining through! I’m mainly interested in shooting close-up portraits and landscapes...in daylight.

Can a lens be too good for a camera?

I suppose I’m after an all-rounder…ideally 28-300! Would be looking at £800-900, and I would want to wait to go second hand, ideally. Ultimately, I think I’ll end up splashing on a replacement for either the 18-55 (24-70 (f/2.8)) or the 70-300 (70-200 (f/2.8)) and saving...

Can a lens be too good for a camera?

Thanks for the advice so far. Just to open it up a little, the three I’m looking at are: 24-70 (f/2.8) 24-105 (f/4) 70-200 (f/2.8) I suppose my preferred range would be 70-200 (but I’m slightly scared by the price). Out of the other two I’m leaning to the speed of...

Can a lens be too good for a camera?

Normally I have to spend some time justifying big spends. This is great- within 10 minutes you've all done it for me!

Can a lens be too good for a camera?

I’m pretty new to the whole DSLR thing but have recently bought an entry level Canon (EOS 1000D) which I’m really pleased with. I got the Canon 18-55 (non-IS) lens kit and bought into the whole Jessops ‘get a cheap lens with the camera’ (I know) and ended up with the Tamron AF 70-300. Out of...

    Tripod advice please!

Ignore! Having just checked the height of the head and my camera I've answered my own question... One final one...as a beginner, after a good all-rounder, is 3 way or ball the better option?

    Tripod advice please!

Thanks Tommy, May well go with that. Just double checked the specs on the link and it gives a maximum height (without the centre column) as 1345mm (53 inches). Am I correct in assuming that you're getting the extra 10 inches from the head and the camera? Sorry for the basic level of...

    Tripod advice please!

Thanks for the offer...I'm just north of London, so I'll have to pass! What model do you have? Dan

    Tripod advice please!

From a brief look at their tripods they seem to only go to 160cm with the centre column extended. Are there other models that I have missed?

    Tripod advice please!

Thanks. I reckon my eye height (with a slight stoop) is about 175cm. This looks to be quite a bit higher than the Manfrotto (which is 150cm unextended to 190 extended). Will 25cm on the center pole be a big issue in terms of reduced stability? Thanks

    Tripod advice please!

Thanks... Just to take things back a step- is the advice that I should use the center pole little (if at all) sound?

    Tripod advice please!

Was looking at £100-200...which may be a problem in terms of the second reply!
