It's always good to see people pushing the boundaries so well done for that. I guess the problem in this case is that horizons and landscapes are naturally meant to be viewed straight, so it just comes off as forced and uncomfortable (if that makes sense)...
I used a waterproof housing for the camera and a very good wetsuit for myself. You have to be prepared to get in the thick of it and take a few beatings.
Didn't have much to work with due to the flocks of tourists and poor light... So, I went for a dip.
It was new territory for me but was great fun...

I like it but I think there's an image within an image here. I would like to see that foreground to the right cropped out and also a bit cropped from the left. You would have that lake as a nice lead in then.
I see where you're coming from Phil, in fact I did have a bit of a dilemma about the amount of contrast. In the end I went for the more diffused option to emphasise the warmth and steam and also add to the mystery of the image.
You've done we'll given the conditions (mid-afternoon is never ideal) but the problem with such an iconic location is originality. It's a an image we've all seen 100 times and it doesn't offer anything new. Perhaps a lower pov might have helped but you're always going to struggle to find a...
Thanks for all your comments, all appreciated. I did play with a variety of different crops but I liked the symmetry of the tighter, square crop. May take another look though...
