I've recently bought the 35mm and really like it. It's a massive low light improvement over the kit lens and you can get some very good shallow DOF shots it that's your thing. I wouldn't go for the first one as there is no autofocus with it in the D3100.
Some great shots in here. Quick question though, how do you know which is your most viewed picture today? I can see how many total views my pics have had (booger all) but not on a daily basis.
This is one from when I first got my D3100 and was just messing around learning what things do. I know it's not a great shot but does show that you can get some shallow DOF with the kit lens, but you do need to be fairly close to your point of focus.
