I amber trying to take a good portrait of my granny. I have a canon 40d. I am in manual setting with an ISO of 100 and aperture of 11. I'm using a 18-55mm lens. I am inside, it's not too dark. Every time I take a photo it's black! (Lens cover if off). What am I doing wrong?

Hi guys. I have a canon 40d, with a 18-55mm lens, and I have just bought a 55-250mm f/4-5.6 lens. I am very new to photography but just wanted to ask how to make the best of the lens to get good landscape photos as I am going to Wales this weekend and might be walking up snowdon!

I have to say, it is more complicated than I thought - not that I thought it would be easy. Has given me a new found respect for photography and photographers as it's an art to master a camera and know how to use it - I hope I make it that far
