Interesting that you feel it's out of focus, I have 5 photos that tell the same story. perhaps the lens required the camera to fine tune the focus

Sorry guys, f4 and hand held. The car was, as I said, 44 metres away. Auto focus, but f4 should give enough depth of field for the number plate to be in focus.

Got to be honest, tried the D7100, in fact I traded a D300 and a D90 towards it. Tried it for a month but didn't get on with it. I admit that I have a D3 as a main camera so maybe I'm biased. But I think you will really appreciate the difference against your D90. I wouldn't ignore a secondhand...
