    Bargain Samyang 14mm F2.4 - Nikon fit

Amazon are advertising this great lens for Astro-/landscape photography for £634.54. This is the f2.4 XPert version which gets rave reviews. It's usually sold for anything between £750-900, most often the latter. Also finding any in stock is quite tricky. There's one left at the moment (although...

    Why do you take photographs?

Coz I have to convince the wife it's not a passing fad and the money spent is all worth it! (12 years now so I should be in the clear)

Can’t get on with my D850.Thinking of going back to D750

You're in good company. I experience exactly the same when I first got my D850. I'm just about now getting some shots with it I am happy with. It's a hoofin' great megapixel camera that's unforgiving where lens quality and technique is concerned, but rewarding when it all clicks. Here's a shot...

    Some tips pls

Yeah I did go out and check the cloud cover. Actually I was loading up the car and looked up and thought wtf! Then went in, checked the forecast again and gah! Cloud cover apparently arriving 4 hours too soon. I have some other dates in the planner though. It’s good to have to work for this. :)

    Some tips pls

I didn't! We were all set to leave (wife was coming to watch the meteors). and about 30 mins before we left at midnight the Met Office updated their cloud cover forecast shifting the cover from starting at 4am, to around midnight. So we were thwarted by good ol' UK cloud cover....I suspect a...

    Some tips pls

Going to have another bash at doing a meteor shower in the early hours of 4th Jan (Quadrantid). Looks like clear skies from midnight to 3am and then it will become misty/foggy (according to Met office). The moon is around 5% and so that should help and I'm in an area of low light. Could do with...

    Beginner Geminids meteor shower

This app rocks! I've downloaded it yesterday and spent a good part of today going through the guide and watching tut videos. Absolutely amazing app! Thanks for the recommendation.

    Beginner Geminids meteor shower

Yeah I just downloaded it and had a quick flick through. Nicely detailed and I think I grasped most of the concepts. I'll spend some time later going through the documentation and watching the tuts. Great app!

    Beginner Geminids meteor shower

*head hits desk* I'm going to claim that it's because it was 2am and was oo'ing and arr'ing over the meteors that I cannot believe I didn't even consider it! I could kick myself really hard as I do a lot of sport photography and ISO and I are well acquainted friends :D I don't know to be...

    Beginner Geminids meteor shower

Not easy this stuff is it!? So last evening, for the first time ever, I decided to try and get out for the peak time of a meteor shower (reported to be around 2am) and see if I could capture any of it using my Nikon D850 and 24-120mm f/4. I'm not new to photography but I seriously got to a...

What is your biggest weakness in photography?

Flash and I have an understanding. We hate each other! It’s consequently my biggest weakness.

Sony 128GB G XQD card - not seeing the r/w speeds I would expect

Hmm...yes. 'Max rate' would imply it's peak performance, as opposed to sustained performance when transferring a large data payload (5GB in my test) I would assume the R/W of the destination, when compliant with USB 3.1, would be 650MB/s (as per the spec)? Anyway, it seems like there are too...
