Beginner Any recommendations for a new lens

As Jannyfox says the 18 - 135mm is a reasonable lens for a Crop - Sensor body. An additional benefit is that it is IS and STM, which makes it very suitable for video as is it silent and Image Stabilised. It is I feel better to spend your money on good lenses, rather than bodies as the...

Beginner Real World Back Button Focusing?

No, horses for courses. Predictive (may be a new feature) Auto Focus tracking still has the possible issue as discussed previously. When the shutter release is pressed fully the image is captured, end of cycle, finished. To re-establish focus the shutter release needs to be pressed to the half...

Beginner Real World Back Button Focusing?

I use BBF on any camera I have used, why? I think was your question. The "normal" camera operation is that when you press the the shutter release for the first part of the action the camera will obtain focus, and when you complete the press the shutter will operate and take the picture, you then...

    Beginner Canon 400D

The 400D has only 9 focus points, in a diamond pattern plus a centre point. Only the centre point is a "Cross" type the others are either vertical or horizontal. Why does this matter and why is it relevant to the question?, even if you had a rule of thirds grid you could not select a focus...

    Street Performer (8)

Really like the subject and don't mind the hat. It looks like an acoustic guitar so would cloned out the pickup cable , if that is what it is; not because its a cable but because it is rod straight and vertical. Only other thing is if you had noticed the chap walking out of frame you may have...

Beginner Clipping - Help and Advice Please

As most of above regarding clipping. Check the histogram on the back of the camera, it will show if any black or white clipping is occurring. Regarding Lightroom it may not be the whole truth, it will indicate clipping areas with indicators (Red or Blue); but it will have preprocessed your image...

    Beginner Preventing misting and condensation

Tried this in Finland a few years back and as I recall it worked for me. If its cold outside and warm indoors before you come in pop the camera into a large zip seal freezer bag, any condensation will then form on the outside of the freezer bag and not on the camera.

    Penrose triangle

Very neat, I don't see any flaws, its probably why I don't gamble.

    Tripods and airline travel

Just flew with Easyjet to Venice, took my camera gear including tripod as hand luggage - no problem. For convenience I put the rucksack into a standard carry on case which made things easier for packing the little bits, battery chargers etc; also the luggage looks like hundreds of others and not...

    Anyone using SONY cameras?

I bought my wife a Sony A6000 crop sensor as she wanted something smaller than my 5D3, I have used it and find it an excellent camera, I also have a 700D 18:135 STM, for holidays and day to day, and there is no comparison to image quality, noise and audio input; the Sony is far better in every...

Beginner Zoom lens to use with a Sony a6000

I have bought my wife the 55-210 after trying to sort out other options. When you are looking I found the main issue was the lens mount, the 18-200 for example is an A-Mount whereas the A6000 and the 55-210 is an E-Mount. I was looking for a one size fits all lens as my wife isn't really...

    Bleedin' Cat!

Can't tell is there is a UV filter screwed in, if there is be careful. If there is a filter it will have smashed so if too rough unscrewing it you can grind it into the front element. Check that !, it looks like it might be the body end of the lens so obviously there would be no filter, I would...

    Nice Gossip

Nice take, the colour and sharpness are okay by me, what I particularly like is the un-written narrative and thought bubbles which you fill in for yourself

    Beginner help

Don't be disappointed or surprised if you see your pictures seem to get worse at the beginning. Initially you will see "the picture" you want purely by intuition, the camera will do the rest and the result is happiness. When I for one started I was pleased with the pictures I took, but then as...
