    Non UK Dolomites advice

I'm looking an October trip too and was wondering about closures. I have two travel windows: around Oct 6 to 14 and Oct 20-28. From reading Rushforth's book, it looks like lifts, etc should be open for the first one. I am not sure about the second one. If not, how would you get to higher areas...

Beginner Im sure this has been asked a 1000 times .....But

As expected, you are getting lots of conflicting advice :-). Always happens when someone asks a 'what camera, lens, etc' thread. And the real dilmena is that all of the advice is 'correct' - there is no 'best' solution. The D7500 would be a good camera. Nikon makes several 70-300mm lens, with...

New "Photoshop" appeared in my Creative Cloud Desktop window

Adobe's own web site (https://helpx.adobe.com/ca/photoshop/using/making-quick-selections.html ) says that the Object Selection Tool was included in the 21.0 released on Photoshop (that is the one the was just released and led to this thread). I haven't installed it yet so I can't comment from...

Thanks. That is really weird. And frustrating.

Which version of Lightroom are you using: Lightroom Classic or the Cloud-based version? The Classic version should work without needing to check servers every time you start it (I think it has to 'check-in' once a month). The cloud version might need more contact since it stores photos in the...

New "Photoshop" appeared in my Creative Cloud Desktop window

Interesting. I just updated my version of Creative Cloud. I now have 13 programme ready to be upodated, including the one that you mentioned in this thread. Wonder why I didn't get a notice about updating CC? Or why I needed to update it anyway? Oh well - new goodies to explore :-)

Interesting. I don't see that. I don't think it is a mobile ap because you still have the 'Desktop' section selected. Is it possible that this is an update for an older version of Photoshop that is still on your computer? What happens if you click on the 'new' logo?

I did the same upgrade but am not seeing anything new in my desktop window. Could you post a screenshot of what you are seeing?

Beginner Absolute beginner .... Looking at getting a DSLR but not sure which to get and why.

Sorry, it was another poster who mentioned menu diving - I conflated the two comments. What I was trying to point out was that entry level cameras do not need buttons to control basic parameters of exposure and focus. I didn't shoot myself anywhere, I just made a mistake. I meant that there...

But, if you buy second-hand in a private sale (e-bay, etc.), there won't generally be a warranty. I'm older. I had a Brownie but my first 'real' camera was a Kodak Retinette 1A - range-finder type with manual everything, including film advance, no focus (not even a manual one) and no light...

I don't disagree. As I said - lots of other advice and opinions to consider and yours make sense too. Personally, I don't like buying second-hand gear becuase of the lack of warranty and uncertainty of the quality of the product. But that's me and my biases. If the OP is fine with going that...

    ICUs/Camera Inserts

Likely, each company has their own name for these inserts. Peak Design calls them 'cubes'; Tenba calls them 'inserts'. F-stop has always called them ICU (Internal Camera Units). The acronym ICU seems to have been adopted more broadly to refer to any unit put instad a bag to store camera gear.

    ICUs/Camera Inserts

ICU = Internal Camera Unit I got some Ape Case Cubeze units. Not as nice as a full ICU but they were cheap (under $20 from B&H in the US) and do a good job 'containing' camera gear inside a backpack.

A disadvantage of cloud based software?

The software has a built-in default - if you do not connect to the validation server each month, the software is automatically deactivated. It does not require contactwith the server to be de-activated. The main cloud-based software that concerns me are products that do not download to your...

    Gitzo Discount

Yes, that why I was trying out the code on my local Canadian Gitzo site - to see if their discounted price was lower than my retail store pricing. In Canada, one of my two local stores sells the tripod I checked for the same price as on the Gitzo site while the other one has a price that is...
