What I'm trying to defeat is the slow shutter speed but achieve a good picture in the dark?

When i took that photo it was mounted to the tripod, took around 1.5secs to fully take, if i wanted to shoot something dark free hand how do i decrease shutter speed and use ISO settings instead of flash?!

ok been trying to use P mode... as it stands i don't really under Aperture & Exposure, trying to do some shots with the moon the shutter speed seems really slow if i don't use a flash even thought my ISO is on around 1600? lucky i have a tri-pod as shooting free hand i get a really blurry photo...

Just bought myself a Canon 550D why is it always so flash happy? in close up mode wanted to get a close up of something, half press button to focus and up pops the flash! try to shoot some night shots, i don't want to use the flash but up it pops, any help much appreciated!

ok... i gave Jessops a call and they tried there 550D & 1100D display models and they also had a little rattle????

Just bought a Canon 550D, turned it upside down to get the serial number and i heard a rattle inside the body, i can also hear this when i give it a little shake, can anyone tell me if this is normal.

I think Jessops just made up my mind for me... the 500D has now been terminated! therfore leaving me with only 1 option... the 550D which seems the be the better camera, cant wait to get it tonight and have a fiddle! anyone got any tips for me as a first time DSLR owner?

My dilemma is... buying the 550D (better & newer camera) and being able to buy a bigger lens at a later date, or buy the 500D (older not as good camera) with the lens, i think im swaying more towards having to upgrade the lens in the future and not the camera, if you guys where in my shoes what...

Ok thanks for that... would i hear any motor noise if i use MF? also, since i put the first post up i have been looking at the 550D is this a much better camera than the 500D?
