Jessops are on the way back to the High Street. They are opening a few stores over Easter. Not all stores in all towns will reopen but lets hope they continue to offer 0% credit.

The only way I could afford my camera was by claiming the cash back. It is amazing that so many people don't bother to claim.

I think Sony should be on your list as their SLT's can auto focus during recording.

Does it have the 18mm-70mm kit lens attached? Sometimes they fail and make a noise similar to one you have described. Do you have another lens to try on the camera to see if it still makes the noise?

If you can see yourself using a flashgun then the 60D is a better choice as you can use the flashgun off camera using it's Integrated Speedlite Transmitter. It has an articulated rear screen and more control over videos. If none of this is important then the 550 should suit you.

Sony have just released these camera's. Just wondering if anyone is planning on buying one of these with 16.2 Megapixel or their lesser models A560 or A33 with 14.2MP. They seem to be getting good reviews and are able to shoot video.
