No real issues with that lens for normal use. In my experience my example isn’t a great performer for IR photography using either an IR72 on standard camera or on a converted IR body. (Central IR hot spot and badly misses the focus point where all my other lenses are close enough stopped down a...

    Room for another

I was just dragging the props together to produce something very similar for this month's round of POY (Wet: Damp, soggy or anything of a liquid nature) Back to drawing board.....

Have you considered presenting the other way up? The dark feature along the as presented top edge and the two adjacent corners could make a 'heavy' base for the picture to sit on. Still a good image either way up.

    Ingleborough from Little Scar

My initial impression was perhaps a little on the heavy side, but it’s so strong you come back for another look. On reflection it exactly matches my recollection of many walks in that area so the author should be commended for accurately capturing both the image and ‘feel’ of this area.

I like that. The fabric of the building is superb. As this this a blended shot it might be worth tagging a final shot on the sequence exposed for the shadows next time and try adding just a hint of detail in the dark archway on the right hand edge to stop it pulling my eye from the main area...

Woody - I do bit of infrared stuff and there is a very similar issue with focus. You might want try the standard IR work round of putting the camera on the tripod, focusing, flicking to manual focus, effectively locking the current focus setting and preventing the camera 'looking' for focus when...

    Critique Midlands Waterways

It’s actually a single image. It was taken on a converted Nikon D50. The camera’s IR blocking filter (sometimes referred to as a ‘hot mirror’) has been replaced with a ‘strong’ visible light blocking filter with a 820nm cut off which means the sensor is operating well away from the visible light...

I said when I joined I would post a few items from my back catalogue to get the hang of this commenting lark before I say anything about anybody else’s work. Let’s start with one of my favourite subjects (Midlands’s canals) and favourite techniques (Infra-Red) C&C invited Bridge56 by...

Partly and and also a nod to the same source as Nigel.

    New starter breaks his silence...

Ok – Time to fess up. Was passing, saw the competition thread and almost on a whim, gave it a shot along with a work mate. Seems I didn’t get laughed completely out of court as I’m on the score board (just) I’m starting to feel a little guilty now about entering and just lurking. Thought about...
