    Critique First time at WRC...

indeed, I do have a Sigma 17-70 which is pretty fine, but the AF is a bit slow and struggles with motorsports. Be interesting to see how the sharpness compares to. The 70-200 which is excellent, and how fast the AF is. However, having just had our boiler expire, spare cash for new lenses is...

    Critique First time at WRC...

Ah, the days of the RAC Lombard - many a Sunday evening watching the Group B cars.... that’s how I got interested in motorsport. Having never got to a rally, I decided it was time to go and watch the WRC. Maybe next year I’ll go to a forest stage or two...

    Critique First time at WRC...

I was on a 70-200 f/4L to be honest it was just a little bit too long on the crop sensor where I was - whilst the AF was great, I was at 70mm most of the time and really wanted a tad wider... 50mm would have been perhaps better but it wasn’t in the bag and the weather made me a bit nervous...

    Critique First time at WRC...

Thanks, both for the comments. I usually try to get a little background context, and had it been a forest stage and a little less dark, I agree and would have added some of the scenic backgrounds. Here, Oulton Park was rather featureless in that regard and certainly after dark there was little...

    Critique First time at WRC...

A very cold, wet and windy night at Oulton Park for the first stage of this year's WRC. Surprised at the low light focussing of the 7Dii and pleased with the weather sealing. No real circuit lighting so very little ambient light for the latter ones of these.. Comments, critique etc. welcome.

A weekend at the Spa (Francorchamps)....

Thank you! Focal length varied, to be honest - most of these were with a 70-200 and 1.4x TC on a 1.6x crop sensor, so 150-450mm 35mm equivalent. Depending on track position it tended to be one end or the other of this range. Spa is incredibly photo-friendly, with lots of places to shoot over...

A weekend at the Spa (Francorchamps)....

One of the joys of WEC is the unhindered pit lane access for a few hours prior to qualifying and the race proper....

A weekend at the Spa (Francorchamps)....

Was fortunate enough to be given permission to play out and spend a very pleasant and unseasonably warm and dry long weekend in Belgium earlier in the month - at probably the prettiest motor racing circuit in the world - the fantastic Spa-Francorchamps in the Ardennes, for the second round of...

Critique A few picks from Le Mans 2014....

In the pits: The following day: And to finish, one from the Le Mans classic race; timing was lucky but a shame it wasn't just a smidge sharper....

Critique A few picks from Le Mans 2014....

Comments always welcomed; first time @ Circuit de Sarthe..... The weekend was defined by two very heavy rain showers in the first few hours: But as the sun went down, whilst the photography became challenging, the race becomes really special:

Tegg's Nose Quarry, Macclesfield - first play at light painting.

Couple of main reasons for merged exposures in this case: - wanted to try different colouration and taking several shots and merging later allowed me to "mix n match" to get the effect I was after - as a first attempt it gave me more lattitude to correct any errors or mistakes on a per-shot...
